One rifle away from contentment..

During the Christmas break I looked at all my firearms and thought that I had all I wanted.......that lasted about a month. Just added 3 more to my collection.

I blame all of you for enabling me. Lol.

I'm pretty much done, i have a high powered pellet gun for silent squirrel dispatch, a 22 lever that is great for plinking and larger pests. I have an 870 shot gun that i use for clay and bird hunting, a scoped 308 x bolt that is my primary hunting rifle, and finally my beloved marlin 1895, which is a good all around rifle, it was a present from my wife, mostly i suspect i have it for fun, but of course it would always be good for.... BEAR DEFENSE!!!:p

So i'm pretty much done.

However, two things that i would like, are on my wish list. ...

Sounds like me circa 1978 - different brands - but I had a .22, a pump-action 12 gauge and a 308 Win - all was good. Then a 243 Win for my wife to use. Then a 338 Win Mag to use for elk. Then a .22 for our son to use. Then a 20 gauge for our daughter to use. And it never really quit!

If I am honest with myself, the "reasons" for most subsequent purchases got weaker and weaker - but no fun in "over-thinking" the issue ...

Yes, always one more, we need a support group...wait this is one. I remember many years ago telling my Wife I was finished. I was mistaken and fortunately She knew it. If I buy one now I usually sell another, so knowing I have to sell one it helps slow me down. Never seem to get the collection complete and perfect.

I can honestly say im done, went through the "buying what i want phase", went through the "just one more phase". I have shot all the calibers I have ever wanted to shoot, I have owned rifles in almost all of those calibers at some point in my adult life. I have the basics covered at a bare minimum..im good.

I'm over this phase to be honest. Pretty rare to make (gun related lol) impulse purchases these days for me. I've tried most everything I want, there's a few exceptions but whenever I feel I "need" something new I usually come to my senses.

I have pretty solid high quality basic rifles with good scopes. Honestly these days I'm more likely to lust after a piece of outdoor or hunting gear

I'm good too, but I still want a new Mauser 98. They are about as perfect a rifle as one can imagine. I have all my bases covered except fit and finish perfection. I wish I never examined one. :)

Gunnutz much?

Anyone else feel like they're perpetually one rifle away from contentment? Is this just the nature of firearm ownership?

Years ago I thought I was "done." I had my .22 plinkers, my 223 black rifles, 9mm carbines, 45-70 lever guns, hunting rifles in .308, 30-06 etc.

I was done, until I wasn't.

I had to add more black rifles, more lever guns, milsurp Mausers in 6.5x55, thumpers in 338 WinMag, 375HH, 416 Rigby, 458 WinMag and many more.

I always have my eyes set on that next rifle around the corner.

Anyone else suffer from this same ailment?

Hmmmm? Maybe that is what being a gun nut is all about. As for me I NEED a Winchester 71 carbine, a Savage 99 Brush gun in 375 Winchester, and to get back the Sako Finnlight I sold to get the Tangent Theta scope I absolutely had to have.:bangHead:

I thought I had all I needed at some point… I even made a thread about it…. Well I didn’t have a fancy rifle yet, so I sold a bunch of guns I thought I would no ever sale and ordered that fancy rifle nearly a year ago, it should be finished quite soon! But in the mean time I bought some “cheap” rifles that will probably get sold again, a savage 99 1926 straight grip in 300 savage and a mauser 98 in 8x57!
We’ll see!!

What fancy rifle did you go with? I eventually want to add a Heym Express to the collection.

Don't even get me started, I still at least 10 that haven't got time to shot them yet, I'm no collector by any means. I just like guns and appreciate the workmanship.

I keep-on repeating myself, "the last gun I purchse will be the last." I want to purchase a sxs shotgun, but I keep on purchasing a rifle.

When I’m dead I’ll be done buying guns.
Getting to the age where some friends and relatives are starting to pass on. Keep coming home with most of their guns.
Unfortunately lost a dear friend around Christmas and ended up coming home with 17 more.
I tell momma they are just keep sakes.

I only have one rifle, a .243. Usually I own a .22 as well, but my son has one I can use if I feel the need. I recently bought the .243, prior to that I didn't own a rifle. I mostly hunt archery as gun season here is a gongshow. I just bought the .243 as I wanted to do some coyote hunting here and there during the winter.

I’m satisfied with what I have.....so I’ve moved on to buying for the kids. My youngest isn’t old enough to shoot yet, but she’s a lefty and the only one in the house. Seems I’ll be buying for some time yet.

I've got this strange sickness that says I'm done with a certain calibre, so I sell those, then five years later I think back fondly on that calibre and start buying again.

I've got two or three guns right now that I "had" to have, and the only thing stopping me from selling them is the big bunches of ammo that I bought for them

Reminds me of the old saying about being aware of the man with only one gun as he will probably be proficient with that firearm , and knowns how to use it . Sort of like the Swiss who keeps their battle rifle at home , and are proficient with it . :sniper:
