One semi and one revolver

Well if you have 12.6 a mod 66 & a mod 39 would be a good choice

If you don't have 12.6 a mod 686 & a sig P226 would be another good choice

Here's where I'm currently sitting. I'm thinking of expanding to more than 2.

CZ 75B SP01 Shadow 9mm. Just felt great when I handled it. Found the double stacked grip was a bit on the thick side but I want to replace them with nice wood grips anyway and I here one can get some thin ones from a guy in Norway (no idea what he charges though!). I'd probably buy it new and plink with it. It will be what I would use if I want to get into IPSC as a work horse.

For a revolver something stainless would be nice. I'm leaning to a 686 perhaps K frame but will look at the model 19 as well. Something about polished stainless with nice wood grips sounds good. I saw some pictures of a 'Talo' edition 7 shot that looked very nice. Maybe this would be new too but I would keep an eye for a used one.

I will eventually get a 1911 for collection purposes. Probably not a $2k one. If I encounter a Colt Gold Cup Trophy National Match in good condition it might fit the bill. I'm firing a friend's next week to see how much I like it. Must say the Kimber Gold Match I tried at Epps fit into my hand like a glove! Not sure what its value would be as a collectible though. Of course if I encountered a used Les Baer and was feeling rich that time it could be acquired instead. I've lifted my hard requirement of stainless especially in the semi.

I must say I also like the look of Browning Hi Powers so it would also be in the running if I found a nicely used gun.

Now THAT is far more realistic.... :D

Don't consider any handgun as "collectable" if you intend on shooting it. As soon as you put rounds through it you've got a used gun and the price goes down somewhat. So if the Kimber is what gets your juices flowing then simply buy the darn thing and go shoot it..... a LOT!

For a stainless 1911 if you can get past the external extractor S&W makes a VERY nice 1911 in stainless. Really good fitting slide and a really great finish with muted maker's roll marks. VERY classy looking.

One semi & one revolver? S&W 5" Performance Center 625 (45ACP) and a "T"-series Browning HP. (Both on my Never Sell List)

From your first post.....

They will likely be my only handguns

Already you're pulling yourself in so many directions that there's simply NO WAY you're going to be anywhere NEAR to ".... only handguns".... :D

Stick a "0" on the end of the "2" and that's about where you'll be in a few years..... :D

One Beretta/Girsan 9mm for the semi-auto, and an S&W 686 for the revolver. Though a model 29 is my preference, you can't go wrong with either.

For a collector I would choose a WW1 Colt 1911 for the semi and a Colt M1860 Army for the revolver, if in good condition they can both be shot for another 100 years.
The cap and ball revolver might be a bit tedious for some at the range so I would also get a really nice S&W (Blued as only S&W can do/did) can't see stainless as a collector.

Mostly I agree with you Skinny.........I say mostly because I have a S&W Model 624 from 1985 manufacture.

Cheers

I'd get the Ruger SP-101 for the revolver, compact and "just right"... I'd look at one of the custom 1911s now available in 9mm...you get an extra round and the 1911 is art...beauty in the form of a semi auto pistol. You can also decide to deck it out with cocobolo wood grips or some other exotic material, and make it truly awe inspiring.

Thought I'd report back to those of you who were kind enough to give me their suggestions here.

I picked up a Les Baer on EE. Got what I thought was a good deal on it as it is brand spanking new.
The paperwork now sits in the Ontario CFO's office. I'll post up some pictures once I have it. It is the Ultimate Tactical Carry model; blued with rosewood grips. I decided after playing with several semis that blued did indeed look good.

The revolver might have to wait a bit till next year as I, (cough!), over spent a bit. I'm going to save up for a progressive press next.
