One Source Tactical RMR Glock 19 slide has arrived

:dancingbanana: I jumped through the US export license hoops and ordered a OST Glock 19 slide milled for an RMR. Brownells can export the kit (OST slide + OEM internals) as they are listed as the manufacturer whereas the bare slide lists OST as the manufacturer and they are not registered for export. Brownells didn't include the shorter screws required for mounting the RMR so I have to find some somewhere else or just file down the original ones that came with the RMR.

I am in Australia so it takes about two weeks to get my import permit but from posting my paperwork to Brownells to holding my slide it was five weeks and two weeks of that was waiting for Customs to send me a seizure notice before I could go in and pick it up. My export license was approved and my items in the mail ten days after Brownells received my paperwork.

Yeah, its Gen 3.
 
Good to see you here but pretty hard to tell where you are when you don't put down a location. I and everybody here are assuming that you are in Canada.
 
Hence the Aussie in my username...Anyway it doesn't really matter, the process for importing/US export license is identical.

Who can own a handgun?
I'd appreciate short synopsis of your laws.

I've got family in Australia and have kept moving there out of my mind because I thought I'd have to give up my g19.
 
Handguns are legal for club use same as Canada. We are limited to 9mm/.38 although you can get a high calibre permit for up to and including .45. High calibre can only be shot in approved matches which are western action and metallic silhouette. Ten round mag capacity limit and minimum barrel length of 120mm for semi auto and 100mm for revolvers so a 4" S&W is fine but a Glock 17 isn't. Glock make the 17A just for us which has a longer barrel sticking out the end. Similar thing to Canada where you do a course before you can apply for a license and you must do a minimum of six shoots a year to keep your license. Gun must be stored in a safe (different states have different rules ranging from pretty simple to specific steel thickness, what type of hinges etc but handgun safe must be bolted down in all states) with ammunition in a separate locked container (metal cash box or tool box is fine). We don't need an ATT but you can only transport to/from a range, gunsmith or dealer. From first starting out to having your own pistol in your safe I tell people to allow twelve months as you have to be a member of a club and hold a license for six months before you are able to buy a handgun. You also have to wait 28 days for your license application and another 28 days for your first permit to acquire a handgun.

You G19 wouldn't be allowed in unless you put a longer barrel in it. I am getting a Lone Wolf XL G19 barrel (135mm) and having it cut down to 121mm and threaded for my G19. I figure if I have to have an extended barrel I may as well have one that looks like it serves a purpose. If you have pinned mags they probably wouldn't cut it as far as Customs are concerned but 10rnd mags are about $35 here and our dolalr is about even with the loony.

As far as rifles go its bolt, pump and lever only. 10 round detachable mag limit in almost all states for centerfires and 15 for rimfire or non detachable ie lever guns. Forget anything semi auto unless you are a farmer and even then a semi auto .22 is the best you're gonna get. Semi auto center fires are virtually impossible to get unless you are a professional culler or have a government job/contract.

Shotguns? No pump or semi auto unless you're a farmer and then its limited to 5 shot. You can get a medical certificate for a semi auto shotgun for clay target shooting but you can't hunt with it and my understanding is you can only load three into it.

A handy table is available from NSW Police. As a regular Joe you can get A, B and H and farmers can get C. As said before, forget about D.

Thanks for the in-depth description of your laws. I have been curious about Australian law regarding firearms but I guess not curious enough to really search it out.
 
Best thing is New Zealand is three hours away and thye can have pretty much anything except full auto including suppressors. Have made a few friends over there so if I want to shoot the good stuff its not that hard to do.

Have you seen some of the user names here? Lol. Anyways, read your long post, thanks for taking the time to to explain the laws down under, quite interesting. My brother in law lives in Sydney, NSW and he said the gun laws were pretty strict, nothing like here in Canada. Even though ours suck, it's still better than nothing. The 105mm barrel length for Canada is the stupidest thing I ever heard of. Can't have a 105 but 106 is OK on my G19. f:P:
