One species, for the rest of your life?

Mule Deer. They can be found on the same mountain or even together with Bighorn Sheep, they are much more impressive than a Whitetail and getting them off the mountain won't break your back like an Elk, it's been said the fastest way to ruin an Elk hunt is to get one.

If I couldn't hunt anything else, I'd be able to afford some more Cape Buffalo, but certainly not every year, or even every other year. So they're out.

Close second would be Wild Turkeys. If I still lived where they do, that would be my choice, but now that I have to travel for them and can't hunt them on my own land, that's taken a bit of the shine off of them. Stepping out the back door, and instantly being in hunting mode, is very special.

So that leaves a clear choice: Coyotes. For sheer fun, nothing else even comes close for me. If they were edible, they would have been on top of the list right from the get-go, with no competition.

Hmm tough call.
I do very much enjoy eradicating every squirrel I see as I have a primal hatred of the rodents....
But I also enjoy Canada goose hunting.

If I had to chose then I would want to goose hunt...but with a high powered varmint rifle fom hundreds of yars out. The one aspect of goose hunting I hate is; buying, settingup, putting away and maintaining hundreds of decoys. Not fond of chewing on steel shot no matter what my dentist says either....and I couldn't give up my rifle for a shot gun....but I sure do like eating goose, so.
Fanciful senario, fanciful hunt
Canada goose @ 400 yards with a 22-250.

Waterfowl hands down no question. Nothin gets my heart pumpin like the sound of those feather rippin just before daylight, nothin tests yer resilience and perseverance like waterfowlin either I started when I was 4 years old I'll quit when I'm dead.

I think all you "upland" and "waterfowl" and "small game" guys are cheating! I don't see anybody trying to skirt the question by answering "big game"...how come you get a pass with such an ambiguous, non-specific answer? :)

Angus, you are being far too lenient here. We have long-running threads on CGN where total strangers insist that all respondents shoot specific targets at specific distances with specific numbers of rounds and then post pictures with specific criteria, just to "prove" that their guns shoot decently. Your innate good nature is making you go too easy on us with this thread. Crack the whip! Insist on specific answers! :)

That would also force me to live by the same specific code! I'm far too much of an Internet hippy these days.

Ardent made the rules and allowed the grouping of "upland" and "waterfowl." If I couldn't group waterfowl, I would have chosen whitetail deer... waterfowl just allows more opportunities and more trigger pulls per outing than anything else... it has a loooong season and generous bag limits... and also includes snipe and woodcock which are pretty "uplandy". Also, I kinda like the hard work and miserable weather... matches my contankerous personality! ;)
