So I'm trying to figure out what I should get as my next rifle that is one up on the 375 H&H. I'm tossing around 458 Lott in a Ruger #1 as being the one to go for but figured I should put the question to the masses who know more than me.(Was also thinking CZ 550 in 458 win mag but kinda want the Lott if I go that route :/ )

So...thoughts on a good chambering/gun that is larger than the 375? (side note: would prefer no wildcats and affordable for the gun)

I'd assume you mean "one up" in terms of energy. Hard to match the 375's ballistic curve with a heavier caliber/bullet.
How about the 416 Ruger in the Ruger Alaskan? Probably about as affordable as you'll get in a big bore bolt rifle over .40 caliber.

The .375 H&H is a great caliber, and overall, much more versatile than anything I know of in a 45 cal. However, if you wanted to get a bigger cartridge, I think the .458 Lott is a very reasonable choice, and guys do love their Ruger #1's....

375 up

416 Ruger -in Ruger 416 Reminton in Rem 700 416 Rigby 404 Jeffery or 458 Win or Lott in CZ or Ruger Magnum 378, 416 & 460 in Wby. 458 Win in Winchester

450 - 400 NE in Ruger #1
458 Win or Lott Ruger #1
416 Rigby in TC Encore

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, I know there's more out there.

It's a simple job to ream the .458WM chamber to fit the Lott cartridge; that is what I did with my CZ550.

What's for? If its just to play around with, get whatever interests you. If you want to clobber something that can potentially step on you, get something that shoots more than once. I'd skip over the .416s and go with a .458, the Lott is as good a choice as any. The CZ can be gotten in .458 Lott through CZ USA, or it's an easy rechamber on the .458 Win. The 550 magazine is long enough already.

Thanks for the input guys. Looking at the CZ website again I see that they do have the 458 lott in the American safari magnums....I think I just looked at the Safari magnums before for some reason which only come in the 458 win mag. Thinking this is probably the route I'll go as I would like it to be a repeater...even though I wouldn't mind getting a Ruger No 1 at some point. (plus we all know the Ruger #1 is perfect to load hot with due to it's indestructible action... :D )

Great sense of humor!!!!!!!

Why so? Plenty of 404Js built compared to the 416 Rigby. The 404 Jeffery is the mainstay of African Game Departments. It was available to everyone, unlike the elitest Rigby that only the rich could afford. The Rigby might have the mystique, but the Jeffery has been there and done it.

Owning a 416 Rigby doesnt make you rich..it makes you poor after firing 20 rounds of it...I know...I have one...:p
