Online Restricted purchase

This subject (restricted carry in the bush for defense) came up during my RCFSC course. I helped explain how the conversation with the CFO would go:

Citizen: "I'm going camping in a remote wilderness area and I'm worried that I'll get killed by a bear, so I want to take my Colt 1911 with me."

CFO: "Why can't you just bring a non-restricted shotgun? I suggest the Dominion Arms Grizzly 12.5."

Citizen: "It's too big and I can't carry it a long distance."

CFO: "So don't go, if it's too much work."

Citizen: "I want to go, but I'm afraid of bears."

CFO: "If you're afraid of being attacked by bears, then you should avoid this perceived danger by staying out of that situation. Just don't go, and you'll have nothing to fear."

Citizen: "Efff you."

CFO: "Glad I could help you avoid being eaten by a bear."

In ontario, do you HAVE to have a LTATT before a store can sell you a Restricted weapon?
I've talk to a friend of mine and he said he has friends who don't belong to Gun clubs or have any ATTs but they own hanguns/restricted class weapons

Plain said...that is it! Agreed.A Shotty might be not as easy to carry, but a bit more effective at Pistol/Revolver range anyway.

You don't need the LTATT, the short term ATT (STATT)to take it home is all you immediately need and that can be taken care of quickly (in some cases). The CFO 99% of the time is going to require that you have a club membership first though. Some people have collector status and don't need club membership, but this doesn't always make life easier.

What if I don't belong to a club? Clubs around the GTA are hard to get into as they're either not taking applications... or are more than 1 hour drive away making a club membership there undesirable or they cost $600 a year which is ridiculous. I have my RPAL, can I just purchase a Restricted to store at home until I join a club next year? Or will the CFO deny me that because I'm not in a club.

In BC, you do not have to have a LTATT in your possession before you purchase and take possession of your restricted. You just can't legally take it anywhere after you receive it.

You do, however, have to have your application for LTATT in progress before the CFO will approve the transfer.

Bottom line, get your ATT in, and then buy your restricted.

Most times the store won't sell you a restricted firearm if you are not a member of a club...

Also. There is no legal reason or way you can get away with taking a restricted firearm to any place other then a CFO approved range. or gunsmith.

Untrue. You CAN purchase and take home a restricted firearm WITHOUT being a club member. However, you cannot discharge your firearm other than a CFO approved range provided you possess a LATT to take your restricted firearm to the approved range. There are different requirements for a SATT and LATT. SATT is what you need to get your restricted to your home. The LATT is to take your restricted from home to the range to have fun. To get your LATT, in most instances, you need to be a member of a range even though by the word of the law, you do not. I believe a couple CGN'ers took this to court to dispute it and are awaiting the court's decision. Doesn't mean the CFO will have to comply.

So many different answers. lol
It's tough because if I call a store different employees tell me different things... o_O
I guess I'll just have to make the move and go purchase one and if I get denied then so be it!

Worst case, check out any of the above sponsors and they will be happy to take your money. :)
