Just picked up a 5" S&W 5906 with fixed sights. Did the import, with again a lot of pain in the bum, but I think it's worth it. There are a few with adjustable, Performance Centre installed sights, but haven't seen any others with the factory Novak fixed.
Single action only, that can be carried "cocked n locked". PC trigger which is very nice. Will lift 3.5 lbs.
I hope to get to the range, whenever it gets a little warmer than the present -30.

No, or at least I doubt it. I don't work for them so I can't say what they will build as the next gun of the month. Smith and Wesson will build whatever gun someone wants. As long as they want enough of them.

No, the 952 is a single stack with different top end. This entire gun is different. More simply a 5906, but rather than a 4" barrel, it's 5". Also the trigger is different as well. The 5906 trigger is a traditional DA, SA. This one is similar to the Performance Centre single actions only, however with the PC triggers you can dry fire with the safety on, this one you can't, but can have it like a normal 1911, cocked and locked action. S&W hasn't built (as far as I know) any other guns like these. Kind of taken a variety of options or different operating mechanisms and put them on this gun. It originally had an adjustable rear sight, I think to meet some European requirment, however they simply placed the adjustable rear sight in the normal cuts for the fixed Novak sight. I took out the adjustable, and put back in the fixed.
This gun also accepts the regular double stack mags. In the US they hold 15, here 10. I'm sure it was this reason that prevented me from sticking up a 7-11 after making the 16 hour drive to pick it up. Oh ya and the fact I drove through some of the most desolate area of our country and there was no 7-11 within 200 miles. But we are a safer country because of it.
 
I forgot to mention that this gun package came with 3 barrels fitted. The 9mm that for me, will stay in it, plus a barrel in 9X21 and also 356TSW. I might try shooting some 9mm out of the 356TSW barrel just to see what kind of results. It doesn't headspace on the mouth with the 9mm (duh) so there will be a bit of a jump, but we'll see how it turns out. Maybe try seating the bullet out a bit for that lot...
 
Super 9 . 3rd Catalog of S&W. Come factory fit with 3 calibers. Manufactured for international target shooting market, Product code is 108099. No mention of one manufactured with fixed sight. Produced only in 2000.

Yeah, you got one of a kind!
And It will be a shooter I think.

And stayed a night in Assiniboine. $39+tax for the room which was attached to the bar with the big sign outside "Smokers Welcome". If it wasn't for the storm, snow drifts and animals on the road, it would have been a straight line back. But is was dark and already drove for 9 hours. I forgot how "nice" it was to be back in a smoke filled "tavern" for couple of Pilsners.:)
I think the effort was worth it, rather than relying on it to be shipped and imported by DHL.:rolleyes: Pain in the arse, but I've been wanting one of these for a while. S&W actually made a similar model referred to as a DPA5906 or DP5906? Made for some of the US IDPA guys. Similar with a 5" fixed sight. More of a Performance Center gun I think.

So I'll take this one for now, and be satisfied if it shoots OK. Maybe find out next weekend. I don't think the guy I bought it from fired it, as everything was pristine and the barrel showed no signs of fouling, which I get immediately with my other S&W pistols, which usually show copper streaks. Comes out, but seen after just a couple rounds.
The other 2 barrels are new as well.

That generation of Smiths is far more accurate than most people give them credit for, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the accuracy.
 
That sure is a super 9. I have three 5 inch models the DPA 9mm and one in .40S@W called the PCD both with fixed Novac sights.The other is a PPC 9 with adustables. I think your going to be very happy with your Super.

I have shot all of the above and I am very happy with your 3 S&W's 210.
 
Please don't take this the wrong way, but what's the big deal? I am not a S&W aficionado and am completely ignorant here, so to me its just "another Smith". Is there anything really special here above and beyond?

What made you go through all the trouble to bring this fine piece in? BTW, I love the mutiple barrel option.

Just wondering.
 
This gun, and like the ones that 210 owns are completely custom built in the S&W Performance Center. Think of these as 1911's from Les Baer. These pistols really are one of a kind.
 
Range report:

It wasn't so cold to make the gun freeze to my hand. So I went out and shot about 50rds. It sure makes a difference with the sun sitting so low. Quite a different sight picture.

Very pleased. It's a shooter. I changed the front sight to a lower one. The adjustable rear sight was about .025 lower than this fixed sight, and I had some spare front sights from some duty guns. These front sights were about the same .020-.025 shorter than the front sight that came with the gun and adjustable rear. Put the sights on, centered them by eye ball and shot a centre hold. Lo and behold, shot point of aim.

I like it. I've got a photo of the first rounds fired, but it was just me there, so I'll save the "shot this from 200 yards while standing on one leg, with one hand, and the target moving" routine.
