Ont hunters safety

If you have been around anyone who has hunted and safely you will be fine, use common sense.

Good luck

When you get your license let me know, I am up in Ottawa for school and always looking for other people to hunt with and spots to check out.

relax and never point the gun in an unsafe direction.when they get you to cross the fence by yourself.unload and put gun on the other side pointing in the opposite direction that you will cross

I don't think that there is any practical portion to the Ontario hunter's safety now - just the written multiple choice. I may be wrong, or perhaps it changed and changed back.

If you have 3,210 posts on this board you shouldn't have a problem with it. Common sense and multiple choice.

thanks for all the spelling comments. A typo and I can never live it down.

I already have my RPAL so am not concerned about any firearms section.
I will make sure to update every one once I have completed the test.

I got a couple 'comments' during my test. I aced the test, and the guy had a couple 'huh, good idea' things. The guy goes to hand you the rifle, you tell him to open it first - every time. Once he checks it, remove the bolt and check the barrel for obstructions (every time) using a ceiling light - there is a tool in the room to check a rifle without a removable bolt (better yet, bring it yourself. When the tester says... 'I'm a CO and I've asked to inspect your firearm' - ask permission to open the action first, then offer to show him your PAL. As I'm sure you know -they like consistency. simple stuff.

Where you going Fremen?

i took mine in almonte with wendy.

just watch out and READ VERY CAREFULLY the written test.

I remember a couple of them were worded weird.

Remember that you can use the 2007/2008 Hunting Regulations Summary as an open book during your test!
Most of the retests I do are from guys who don't know this or fail to check the regulations for the related questions on the exam.... and there are lots!
Are you taking the course and then writing on Thursday? Or have you already taken the course and just going to write? If it is the latter or you already have the hunting Education Manual... the important points are covered in the chapter reviews and bulleted with a Caution sign in the margins! Study those and you will be fine!

Just take your time, thats the only advice I have, no need to fly through it. I went through and answered everything I 100% knew, then went back and re-read the strange sh*t.
Good luck!

Sometimes they don't get consistency! I was coming out of the bush from a few days of spring grizzly hunting when stopped by a C O. He looked a my licence and tag, then said he wanted to see my limited entry authorization. I said, "Oh dear," then explained it was in the box on the rear of my quad, my quad was backed into the canopy on my truck and impossible to get out, unless I unloaded the quad, but first I would have to unhitch the trailer. He made no indication of relenting, so I told him, "You have a list of all fourteen permits in your area, just look at it and see my name." He went to his vehicle, got it out and checked my name.
I was alone in my truck, with my 30-06 rifle beside me with the bolt closed. He said, "Is that rifle loaded?" I took it out, being very careful where it was pointing. I pointed it up, and with a bit of fanfare, very sharply flung the bolt open! I looked in it, as he was doing, I stuck my little finger up the chamber, then said, "Huh, not a darn thing came out!"
An old logger then came along and the three of us sat around for about a half hour, having an excellent BS session.
This was the first time I had ever seen this C O, but in years past I have been on many hunts with game wardens.

Oops, I boobooed! I skimmed through the thread and thought you were talking about a C O in the field.
Anyway, that's my story, and sorry if it changes your thread.

Congrats! Now just get the credit card warmed up for the endless gear you'll just HAVE to buy. Thats what I tell the wife anyways...
I forget if you mentioned, are you rifle or bow hunting, or both?

birthdays & christmas are now your best friend to get your better half to buy your gear for you
