ONT Turkey Seminars Registration Open, MARCH 8 SEMINAR say HI if you see Huntress & I

Turkey Seminar

Ontario's biggest F77kpu since stocking the Great Lakes with Pacific Salmon instead fish that the guy without a large boat can fish for. But that was also done with OHFA assistance.

Turkey Seminar

Been there did it. Still feel it's a rip off. We all had to take a Hunter safety course. Even back in 1968 when I did mine. Why do we need a separate course to hunt turkeys.

Funny, this topic seems to pop up every year about this time.

The course is so the OFAH and MNR can grab 35 bucks of your hard-earned money.

The course teaches, history, about the bird, the re-introduction project, spring hunting tecniques, and safety mostly. (You're in full cammo, making turkey noises and have a gun) You can do the math on that one.

I liked the course. Just don't buy anything....that's where they get ya.

Here is the course in a nutshell:
1)Sit at a tree taller than you, and wider than you.
2) shoot a bearded bird only, the others are hens.
3) buy as much junk from them as you can afford. no-one else carries their products,....er um, oh ya Walmart does.

Thats the course. Now go take it, and talk to people in your class. The best part of the course was seeing and talking to other hunters about hunting geese, deer etc..

Enjoy :)

Shwo up, pay your $35 bucks, and if you live close enough you might as well go home until after the half-time break. THe first half of the course is usefull only for catching up on sleep, and they basically give you the answers for the 20 or so questions one by one in the second half, just to make sure no-one fails and drags their success rate down.

All bitterness aside, do yourself a favour and find something better to do until the first half is over, you only need the last quarter of the course to pass, unfortunatly they wont let people in and out that late so you'll have to show up after the lunch break and herd yourself back in for the whole half.

That about sums it up, unfortunately. I never understood the concept of the course. I thought we were all taught to not shoot until we were sure of our target and whatever else is behind it. As far as I know, humans and turkey's look pretty dissimilar, although, there are quite a few that act like each other, but I don't think a day long course is going to help that!

It's TURKEY course day for me and Huntress!!! Just call me "The UnderTaker"... ha ha ha

See you at the RA Centre!!!

Cheers

Well, we finished our turkey course and with the exception of mentioning OFAH memberships a couple times, the course was pretty good.

There was NO flogging of products... This is exactly opposite to what others have told me about the course...

Overall, my impression is that the info presented could be done in one morning, heck, an hour if you sat and read the info and then wrote the test... But, NOT having been subjected to all the commercialism & flogging of memberships... I can't be too hard on them...

Anyhow, YMMV...

Cheers
Jay

I took mine on saturday. The course was full up and they had us packed into the RA center like sardines. For some reason I had the bright idea to go drinking until 3 the night before, and was pretty hungover/gassy. Didn't really learn much that I hadn't already read on the internet. I'm glad I only have to take it once.

Good day, im from new brunswick and am interested in turkey hunting in ontario , are we required to write this 7hr course aswell? Thanks Peter
