See appropriate sections for complete details. If you are hunting small game in an area where there is an open season for deer, moose, elk or black bear, you may not possess or use a rifle of greater muzzle energy than 400 ft-lbs or shells loaded with ball or with shot larger than No. 2 shot, unless you possess a valid licence to hunt deer, moose, elk or black bear as the case may be. When hunting deer, elk or moose, you may only use or carry the type of firearms allowed. See new changes under Important Messages for

with the way that read's ,I guess were good to use our 17 HMR now during controlled hunts,,remington say's their 17grain bullet 17HMR rimfire has a muzzle energy of 245 ft-lbs,or 22 win mag with a muzzle energy of 290 ft-lbs with a 32gr bullet, both below the 400 ft-lb requirements.Or at least thats way I understand it,,wich I don't mind at all,I would rather take out my 17 HMR then my 22 long,

Sounds like you will get busted for having a .22 out during big game season where small game might still be open, or you'll get busted for having a regular hunting rifle out during small game seasons??

All in all, a real puke of a jackass decision by more morons who know nothing about game management, hunting, or shooting.
Ontario will be the second last province to UN-BAN handgun hunting.

Turdo, you and all your piglets suck the teat.

Here in Elgin County there is no season to hunt deer with a rifle. There is only a bow season - four one week hunts at different times through the months of October, November and December.

So, if I purchase a license to bow hunt deer, I can therefore hunt small game with my 222 - or a 270 if I had that caliber - during this open season.

Who thinks up this sht.

Liberals. And making rules like this, creates more Liberal employment positions, i.e. enforcement.

:

Ummm the Bow season lasts from September until December 31st

Those 4 weeks you mention are for Muzzle loading RIFLES!!

Do you actually have a Hunting License?

I will admit I am new to the sport. I can certainly stand to be corrected. I will listen to any advice that will improve my knowledge base.

As I read the regs for Elgin County - approximately WMU 92B, 92C, and 92D although those WMU do encompass small section of Middlesex and Oxford Counties - there is no rifle, shotgun or muzzle loader season. I read this from Ontario Hunting Regulations Summary 2011-2012, pg 66 found here:
http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/stdprodconsume/groups/lr/@mnr/@fw/documents/document/239849.pdf

There is a Bow season for the above WMUs Oct. 1 to Nov. 6, Nov. 14 to Nov. 20, Nov. 28 to Dec. 4, and Dec. 12 to Dec. 31. I stand corrected in that there is a five week and three one week periods. I read this from the above link on page 67.

Quite clearly with a post count of almost 11,500 and president of the East Elgin Sportsman Association you have experience that I can only espouse to. If could please take the time to show a new hunter where I'm reading the regs incorrectly I would appreciate it. What have I missed? I must admit that I do have to read the regs several times to fully understand them.

While rereading the regs I did discover that it is illegal to carry a firearm other than bow hunting equipment during a bow only season. This in and of itself really precludes my suggestion from my first post. I learn something everytime I read the regs. But I must admit the dates for the various seasons do confuse me a bit.

Thank you for the constructive advice and guidance and sharing your knowledge.
