Any Ontario hunters having any luck with the black bear hunt? Seems to be still too warm out there...what are people using for bait? Lets hear some stories and see some pics of those blackies

Well this is my first season of baiting for Blackie's in Ontario (WMU 64). I worked hard setting up the baits & had about 9 different bears making regular visits. I have been using horse feed, bagles, corn, molasses, peanut butter, & table scraps for bait. Tried fish once, but even the coons didn't touch them. I think next time I will just try boiling the fish first.
Come hunting season, the baits have gone dead. No bears to be seen! I think that there is so much natural food available that they are just NOT interested in the bait anymore. My hunting partner & I sat out 4 straight afternoons from 4:00pm until dusk, but no bears made an appearance. We're hoping it will pickup again soon. We will report any bears taken with a good story & pictures.

I've never hunted bear before, there just have never been bear in my area, but after putting up a trail cam, looks like I will be. This dam bear is keeping all the deer away, and bear season in my zone is only in the spring. He seems to love the corn and my salt block.

Ya I guess you could say we had some luck opening day.
We use grease and a special formulated bear bear bait made with black licorice and cookies and molasses. Bears have stopped though too warm since opener

Myself and a friend went out for a couple days for the opening in Tweed. We had tons of bait but could only bait for the week before. We had bears coming to both sites at night while we were there but couldn't get anything to come in in the day. It was way too hot in the day. I think if it had been cooler we would have done really well. We were originaly going to go this weekend (13th) but because of his schedule we had to change it. Maybe better luck next time.

We have a huntcamp in WMU 49. Never bear hunted before but I put a bunch of chicken bones, couple fish heads/guts,bacon grease and corn cobs out in a marsh were we've seen bears when moose hunting. Left my trail camera there for 27 days. Checked the camera yesturday and it had 202 pictures on it. About 75 pictures of bears (a few big ones, mostly the same bears returning every day, sometimes 5 times a day) about 50 pictures of coyotes (sometimes 3-4 coyotes in the same pic) couple fishers and deer. I couldnt believe it. Has to be a coyote den close by. The bears were even coming back and sniffing around 15 days after we put the bait out at all times of the day and night. I'll be buying a bear tag forsure now . Maybe a coyote tag too :). I'll post pics in a couple days when i buy a digital camera and get the pics on the computer.
