Ontario bear hunting is fast approaching

Bear is disgusting. ...if you shoot one this spring....skin it and and get the meat cooled asap...pm me and I'll be there within 24hrs to taken care of the meat for you....

Seriously....properly dressed bear is nothing short of delicious... like superbrad said, most people just suck at cooking so sticking wild game in their hands is dog food waiting to happen.

There was a grocery store that sold bear hams when I was a kid. It`s too bad now you have to go to a butcher for it now-a-days. They were delicious! If properly prepared, bear is excellent!

I recall reading your hunting story :)... How did the bear sneak that close? Was it windy, were you sleeping or was the bear just that quiet in approach?

Smokey was quiet. I was very alert, as he was playing hide and seek the previous day. They are like giant cats when they want to be. It really rattled me.

Good eating? That is subjective. Yes if you love game. If you've only ever had farmed animals then dump bear will be an acquired taste. Even for game lovers bear is on the low end of palatability with moose and elk being the tops.

Spoken by one who has never had it cooked properly, after it having been handled in the field properly.

Most mix bear with pork to make pepperettes or highly spiced jerkies. I highly recomend bear in indian style curries. Rogan Josh is my fav, but there are so many ways to do it and do it well.

Hopefully you are not doing bear meat jerky without cooking it. Trichinosis is not fun at all.


The backstraps are also good with honey garlic rosemary.

Anything would be good with honey garlic rosemary. ;)

Male vs female is ears/head and size. Not always easy, but provincial manuals are good at explaining and you can you tube it for guessing practice.

A bear damaged a BBQ at our area. They are roaming around eating everything they can get. We go up to hunt on May 6th.

I have heard that it especially tasty around 9:30 at night. What a treat to have you guys drop by out there!

You know the burbot started biting just after you left. Steve caught six in forty minutes.
