Has anyone else noticed a big increase in bears in their area?? We usually see a handful a year up at the cottage, but have already seen about 8 so far this season...

Even here in southeastern ON, we've had multiple bear sightings in the area.

Think its an increase in population? Or are the bears just more mobile this year?

Far fewer at my place in Central Ontario than previous springs.
Have only seen one - a really big one - and had a pile of poo appear a few days ago.

They've been spotted just north of Shelburne this year. Not completely unusual but rare
Enough to see them in populated areas.

You can thank the good folks at the gov't and MNR for cancelling the spring bear hunt. Didn't you know, black bears are endangered in Ontario!

Bears are nothing unusual at my place.. But I did have a nice Boar eating from the apple tree in my driveway on Friday afternoon. Common August 15'th!

I know of some people that have seen a few around in my area just outside of Frankford. Even had an Elk just down the road from me last year.

Definitely seen an increase around our cabin in the Huntsville area. Captured quite a few walking by on our trail cams.

Hell me and my old man were sitting out by the fire having a beer and one just walked up our driveway. Promptly saw me (I stood up to see what the hell that dark shape was) and bolted.

My cottage is in Bancroft, and I have seen at least one bear every time I am up there for the weekend...last weekend we seen 2 different bears, and this is just on the cottage road that is maybe 1.5 kms long. Can't wait for September 1st!!

2 years ago a black bear broke into a bakery in Tobermory (guessing his summer home was on the Bruce) during spring/early summer. Tobermory is a happening spot come the end of may, so that was unusual. My cottage is on the very north end of wmu 43b. 6-7 years ago we saw quite a few bears, but a lot of this was due to the fact that there is a dump 1 mile from the cottage and an at the time successful charter operation was dumping fish carcas there every day. Now, I've seen 1 in the past 2 years and almost no sign. The charter service shut down so the dump is not nearly as heavily frequented. Also, a camp down the road from us harvested I believe 12 bears in the last few years, which was maybe too many. Combine the number of bears taken in recent years, add the dump being vacated, add coyotes (not sure if they would bother bears, but there has been a huge increase in the last 2 years) and we are left with almost zero bears in my immediate area.

Go to Elliot Lake, when I worked there I would see between 2 to 6 of them a day walking around town. Nice to see the population is healthy down south aswell.

I had a place near Boulter, N. of Bancroft and starting about 3 yrs ago I noticed a huge increase in bears. There's nothing like rounding the corner of your barn and scaring the poop out of each other.

Bear numbers are up across Ontario... in some areas they are moderately to severely overpopulated... human interaction events are rising, vehicular collisions are way up. You can thank the underhanded dealings of Mike Harris and John Snobolen, crooked politicians causing havock with wildlife and eroding the heritage rights of citizens. Call any MNR office north of the Muskoka's... there will be a voice recording offering information for bear complaints, suggesting that if the danger is immediate to call the police or 911, if the danger is not immediate then call the bear hotline... sufficient evidence of the rising numbers.

Lots here in Timmins.

At least 1 every time I drive up HWY144
Saw 4 running around on the Gold Mine property while playing baseball
Also spotted one in a tree close to town. Cop had his shotgun out yelling "HEY" every time it moved haha. Some animal person eventually showed up and poked it with some sleepy sauce.
