I believe the sporter was never legally banned only added to the FRT
Pretty sure you are correct but I don't want / can't afford to be the first person that the RCMP charge after they check the FRT and find it with a banned status.

Not saying you are wrong but when they check they will find the ATRS banned via FRT and default to "Lay charges and let the judge figure it out".

It´s been nearly 5 years and that hasn´t happened so I suspect we are comparably safe

Technically that is true but doesn't tell the whole story.

Recent developments (ie the bans in early December and March which wiped out pretty much all remaining semi auto black rifles) mean that if it is a black AR15 looking rifle semi auto then now it almost certainly banned whereas before December there were many options still left and it would not be unusual to see one at a range or similar.

With this in mind the ATRS (or indeed anything like it) would attract a lot of attention and my understanding is the the RCMP use the FRT to guide them, the FRT will state it is banned (even though it was put there by a sneaky Bureaucrat with an agenda after the OIC that may not even be legal) so I would be surprised if charges didn't follow.

To be clear I am on the same side as you and see the stupidity / unfairness of it all but I refuse to ask for trouble. I also applaud anyone who wishes to proceed differently and should I ever see an ATRS or similar at the range it will bring a smile to my face.

Less then a month after this comment the list just got shorter.

It's the same government rhetoric: "There are other guns you can use", until there's another ban or FRT classifying as prohibited.

One day that line will stop. There wont be any fanfare or noise on CBC but that in itself will speak volumes. At the current rate it wont take long.

This event was cancelled due to low participation brought on by the bans

In the relatively short time I have been involved with firearms (~9 years) Liberals have basically wiped out gun sports (at least anything action orientated with a long gun, ie 3 Gun, PCC, Service Rifle).

I used to see 20+ people at events at our local gun club pre Liberal tomfoolery. That has dwindled to 3 or 4 which isn't enough to justify the effort.

But we continue in the same direction because of "Tariffs" and "Orange Man bad". Elbows Up folks!

I've been shooting in SSW Ontario and SE Michigan for years. When I started, lots of events, and lots of Canadians at the USA matches. As time went on, less and less Canadians made the trip through Detroit/Port Huron to shoot at USA matches.

Now, AFAIK I am the only Canadian taking part in 3-gun matches in Port Huron MI. Sure, I'm at a disadvantage with my MRA Renegade or my SCSA Taipain X, but I am having fun!

I know a lot less people willing to jump through hoops to get the paperwork (and the toys) to shoot these days.

Hope to see other Canadians at the June 14th match at BWSA!
