Ontario Caliber Regs and Bylaws

So .270 is a go but 7.62x39 is a no go? I would've thought hunting regs a little more sound than firearm regs..

We got some stupid rules, I mean can't use a 30-30 what has more range? We also can't use pistol caliber rifles for hunting when they would be safer.

Ya its stupid. My just right carbine would be perfect for coyotes with 115gr hp but not legal here. A 270wby with 150gr bullet is.
I shotgun most of my coyotes anyway. 223 and 2506 take the rest

it had to do with post WWII, guys shooting up everything and anything with surplus 303, which there were a lot of and ammo was cheap.
So lots of SW Ont Twp made "less than rule" to eliminate the 303 shooters...
has nothing to do with effective range of bullets etc

Finally, a reasonable explanation! Thank you. Probably no shortage of surplus 30-06 in those days either.

That clever rule effectively eliminated 7mm Mauser on up.
