Ontario Deer hunters headed out for the gun hunt

Well, at 8 am this morning, I shot a nice 8 point Buck in zone 62. Not bad for the first day. :D

1 shot through the chest, tore the heart and lungs to bits. He made it about 30 yards before collapsing. I was using a Stevens 200 in .308 Win.

Good luck to all! First year hunting, and unfortunately with school I wont be able to make it out as often as I'd like.

Have the weekend planned for solely hunting, and the weekdays Im going to try to get out in the mornings for a couple hours before school starts.

You're like a outdoor "special ed" & poser magnet, aren't ya? This is the third time that a hunting partner PROSPECT has kicked you betwixt the knees. At least you got your moose! Nice one BTW.

I was supposed to to be going to WMU 42 for the week but all that ended abruptly when the fella I wbas going with asked me to buy him some ammo as his PAL suddenly expired.
The trip was in the planning for the last month & half......

Good thing I shot me a moose up in WMU 4 two weeks ago :) Best of luck everyone who is heading out. This cold snap should get them moving atleast.

Cheers

Day one was a bust for me. It's my first season so I don't feel bad.

Got in the stand over an hour before dawn. Not a deer to be seen. Just some kind of bird/mammal/manbearpig which started screaming and squealing randomly. Never heard anything like it before.

Only heard one rifle go off all morning so I don't feel too bad. Won't be able to go bak up till next week. But I'll have 3 straight days to try to use that buck/doe tag for wmu 60.

Heading up to my Camp in WMU42 tomorrow morning. (got wrangled into driving my daughter to/from a concert in TO last night - not happy) I will be hunting during the morning afternoon and electrical work wiring my camp in between and after dark.

I hope the daytime temps stay quite cool and the rain is minimal. Good luck to all.

Saw 5 total today - couldn't get a shot on three, and the other two (big doe and fawn) were bedded down 10 feet from the highway behind a farmer's fenceline, lol. Took a couple pics instead while they looked stupidly at me.

Also saw a cow moose and calf cross the road in front of me - both were magnificent specimens.

I'm in 62.

Out again right now. The 4 other guys in my party have tags left (2 antlerless), so hopefully one of us will get another one today. I set up on the same watch I was on yesterday. It's on a low ridge overlooking a great choke point between a beaver pond and a dry marsh. One of the other guys is watching the other side of the ridge, and two of them are watching the other side of the pond.

Another successful day. The guy I am with on the other side of the ridge just shot a small buck. It came around the ridge towards me where I put a couple of shots in to him too. My partners hit would have killed him, though we can see what is likely the entry hole from my bullet right next to the exit wound from his (looks like one of my shots missed:().

I went out for the first time today, Lots of Deer around just none in my fields that I have permission for! My first site had a real big nice 8 pointer across the road and he wouldn't come over and my other site had a nice doe just sitting in the field beside me mocking me!

7am on the 5th got a nice little buck. Wmu 64a, Smith and Wesson .270, at 280 yards. First deer ever.......awesome! Back at it Friday, just gotta suffer through the week!

Seen nothing last week tons of bucks on cam lots of movement now nothing!! It blows! Just had the same two kids walking into the bush as they did Monday.. One started to climb my other stand that I could make out through the forest as I have three somewhat close by.

Guess they don't understand someone yelling "go back to where you came from!!!"

Their dad tried to "squat" more land from the father in law a few years ago.

Buddy says fire into the ground next time they wonder into the bush. The roar of a shotty would make em leave.

I ain't got enough balls for that lol
