Ontario Deer hunters

Haha, there are many more here that deserve that title a lot more than I do. I enjoy helping others less fortunate in regards to the outdoors, and have many times taken new people out to introduce them to our pastimes. I don't have much to offer but hospitality and good memories.

Thank you though!

Muzzle loading on Monday in 92. Doc said shouldn't but I just finished making speedloads and the wife is mad cause I may have alluded to not hunting but ........ Looks to be a good hunt snd I promised the Mrs to take it easy!

Good luck everyone.

And can we try to go through an entire season without somebody shooting themselves or their hunting buddy? That orange vest isn't bullet proof.

Or should we start a pool and see who can guess the correct number of hunting accidents that make the news this season?

Really we had a heck of a frost this am along with fog ..I has ice on the water in the box of my truck.. It did turn into a very nice warm day but first thing this am it was cold.lol Dutch

Was going to go to manitoulin island 43b but got screwed in the draw for a doe tag two years in a row.
What are the odds of that?
I am no longer a rack hunter.
Have plenty of deer and moose racks on my cabin walls.
I'm a meat hunter and do not want a buck.
I just want a young doe or even a fawn because that's the best eating venison.
Think I'll give the deer a rest for another year.
Lots of moose meat in the freezer.

Yeah in 77 it was upwards of 14 today. Never dropped below 4 last night. Few people shooting today but havent seen anyone with a body yet.

Son and I received doe tags for Manitoulin (43B)... heading out to bowhunt this week... looking for a couple meat deer... either a dry doe or young buck... if a monster comes by, I suppose I'll have to take it... but I hope not.

Yeah im not big on taking a doe with fawn. I will if its a fawn almost as big as mom.
My dad spoted a doe and 2 small fawns today. I wouldnt take them but wouldnt put it past the other hunters in this area.

Saw 7 deer in 85c today but only one within slug range, this years fawn, 20' from my stand. It was fun to watch her putter around then go about her merry way. No need to take that little fella this year but here's hopin some of the others I saw come in range tomorrow. Also lookin forward to 2 weeks from now in 43a.

Taking a doe with a small fawn is really like taking 3 deer. The fawn will likely not make it and the doe won't be having any more fawns in the spring.

I also just got one this morning, should be a great meat deer, a young 6 point. The icing on the cake is I still have my WMU 62 antlerless tag (one of the others in my group tagged it).

Hunting in 48, my old man and I were out most of the day yesterday and this morning, so far not a deer to be seen! between us and our wives we have 2 buck and 2 doe tags, but I think this warm temp is keeping the deer bedded down for the daylight hours.

Nothing here in 77. Sunny and 15.7c outside. Deer are all sleeping in the sun somewhere. Just like my brain is telling me to do.

I filled my antler-less tag in the AM yesterday. This is my second year hunting and I was lucky enough to take a 5-point last year.

I watched this young buck/fawn graze for 10 minutes before I took it because I wanted to make sure it was alone. No other deer came out of the bush. He dropped where I shot it. My group hunts for meat, pure and simple, and my much more experienced buddies were happy to have it, but if I am honest with myself, I don't think I would take the shot again. Maybe it is the new hunter in me, but I am wrestling with the idea that this deer could have become a much better specimen in years to come....on the other hand...another hunter could have taken him. Maybe I need to man up, but I am pretty torn. :( I have definitely learned from this experience, if that is any consolation.

We have one more antlerless and one buck tag we hope to fill, but I can tell you I will only be looking for headgear from this point on.

Sorry for the downer....just had to get it off my chest.

Good luck guys!
