Saw two does tonight - I passed (still early)

Saw the first scrape as well.

Nice cool weather - it's looking good.

First day at my new rifle property East of Peterborough this morning with only two of us...me and my land owner from another property that he's been good enough to let me hunt deer and turkeys on for the last 7 years....so I took him and his 308 along. Put him into my stand in the dark and made my way back out to the alfapha field to get to my post overlooking the entire field with my 270 Win. As I just break cover into the field I make out 6 deer in the field....GAME ON! I do my best Bennie Hill quick walk to my post and watch the 6 point buck go back into the cedars ...then the doe and two fawns....by legal shooting time...JUST...There was one big doe left making her way down the edge to an opening into the cedars...safety off ...crosshairs on the vitals..140 grain AccuBond on the launch ramp and sent her way air mail. Deer one is down on the edge of field...requires zero dragging = GOOD NEWS. My buddy radios me and I inform him of the one deer down and told him to stay still and watch....45 minutes latter a single 308 shot rang out and a HUGE mature 8 point buck was down. His biggest ever after 25 years of hunting. 30" neck and massive mass with all the tines raked forward and equal. Great day all in all.

I hunt in 81A for shotgun season this week, there is 9 of us and we have 4 deer down. 3 bucks and one doe. My dad shot a decent 7 pointer and another guy got a 5 pointer. Then tonight at 4pm I shot a decent 5 pointer at 30 yards, dropped on the spot made a couple kicks and expired. I seen 11 deer in two days. I seen another small buck this morning that was too far away and the rest were does and fawns. Still 5 tags left and 8 guys hunting, we could easily fill them with does but judging by the necks on the bucks we shot, their necks weren't very swollen so the rut may still may not be at its peak, noone has seen any big bucks...yet, two days left and i bet atleast one bruiser hits the ground for good before then:D

We havnt heard much shooting either, usually it sounds like a war going on first couple of days, its been crappy weather so maybe not too many ppl took a stand, or the deer arent moving as much....

My group got 3 does so far, Weather turned bad today and everything seems to be hiding now....I am heading back out on Friday and Saturday. Taking my daughter in the stand to give her a taste of hunting and see if this something she wants to pursue. She is so excited.
