It's finally here folks the first ever modern day ontario elk hunt. so basically all i know is that you pay an application fee to apply for the tag. you can apply as a group of no more than 4 members. now if you or one of your group members are succesful in drawing a tag, you can accept it or request it. if you accept than you can buy your elk license. the tags are given out in certain areas WITHIN wmu's 57,58,60,61,62, and 63a. If you are succesful in drawing a tag u cant apply for five years. however if one of your group members draws the tag and you dont, you can still hunt in the group and apply the next year. everything is still kinda foggy and no set prices have been given out yet. guess' we'll just have to wait for the reg book. any body applying? i know i am

it would be nice to get a bull tag we have monster 6x6's and even bigger 7x7's roamin around in by our camp. we find sheds every deer season. i found one off a 6x6 this year that the procupines and squirrels beat me to. another guy found one off a 7x7 in beautiful shape. we've got a whole pile of elk sheds. we've run into a couple bulls dogging to.

I wonder how long it'll take before the taxman puts and application fee on a Moose tag or S. Ontario Whitetail shotgun draw...???

They won't do that, because right now we are forced to buy the moose license, even if you don't get an adult tag, so they would be losing money. With the elk, you don't have to buy the license if you don't get drawn.

you can bet there will be som,e monster bulls coming out of the bancroft area . thy have been left alone for a few years and have been growing big and strong on the farm crops in the area may even be some recpord bulls i would love to get a chance at one DUTCH

we're about a half hour south of bancroft. that heard stretches right down to madoc. the ministry has a feeder not far from the madoc talc mine. you see them right outside of town. i can tell you that the ones we've seen in deer season look like something out of a magazine. like i said all either 6x6 or 7x7.

Whats a licence going to cost?

thats just it no set prices have been given yet. and like blargon said you pay to apply for the tag first, then if you are succesful you then buy your liscence. we'll all just have to wait for the reg books. go to www.mnr.gov.on.ca and take a look around, anything new the ministry will update. it will give u a few more details anyways.

the elk in the Bancroft area are hated by the farmers there as they have bankrupted them with crop destruction .they are not much of a target as they will eat out of your hand . they were introduced to the area several years ago by the ministry of natural resources .

I know my fiances family in Bancroft sees them on their property. Would be neat to hunt them.
If it really is $1000 for a licence thats a bit crazy.

with the draw system in place I cant see the tag being more then $100. considering moose tag prices, a $60~$70 range is more likely

maybe a bit of wagering should be done :), Im putting $10 on what I said above

I'm just stating what I heard from the VP of our local fish & game club. I figured it would be right around what a moose tag would cost also!
