Would like to know if anyone is planning on hunting for geese next week.
Personally, I only hunt for them during the early season and give up around the end of October.

To be honest, I only found out about the 10-day late February hunt only recently. Does anyone know the reason or purpose of this relatively short open season?

Going out for sure. Have a buddy that lives right near and open stretch of water due a dam. Surrounded by harvested Cornfields. Should be a good week. Been seen tons and tons of birds flying here in southern Ontario (Brant County).

My understanding of the Early season is to knock down the resident goose populations, that is the birds that don't fy south for the winter, and the birds that linger around urban centers with open water, as they become a 'nuisance'. This is what I have heard from a couple biologists but I could be out to lunch as well. I don't really care as long as I get something to hunt in the spring!

Have fun out there all!

My buddies said thy would call if they found birds down their way they can get at. My dekes and blind are ready to go!!! Yes the season is to try to harvest/control the resident giant canada goose population, the great lakes birds. Not the James/Hudson's Bay birds.

Not getting out unfortunately but i saw tons of geese in a field out near port perry the other day. Wish I could get em but no time sadly.

If someone in the haldimand or Brant counties is looking for someone to tag along, I am up for it.

I do not have any decoys or a dog, but I'll try anything.

Big populations around me in Gormley as well. Don't enjoy eating the resident "golf course" geese though. They taste exactly the same as the water they live in, green pond.
