If you are not a big fan of good customer service by all means try Shooters Choice. I try to avoid them, and there crazy prices!

It depends who you get re: customer service. I have had a mixed bag. Some are really great and others are very arrogant. Prices are around average but selection is pretty good and so is the inventory. I buy from there if I want it "NOW" and they have it. I hate waiting worse than mediocre service.

Customer service and the gun shops

My experience has also been very mixed but there are all too common threads in the retail gun biz and those are arrogance and indifference. I don't think it's much of a help when guys like us get the hots for a new toy and want it NOW. I'm as guilty as anyone. I'm 67 and count every day as if it were my last one; waiting is definitely not my strong suit. But I've done a lot of business in a lot of industries and the retail gun biz doesn't shine. That said, I have had great transactions at Gobles and Ellwood Epps. I try to treat the people I deal with as professionals and then wait to see how they respond. If they give me the message that I need them more than they need me ( too common) then I move on and try to contain my toy lust for another time. One thing I have always done in business on behalf of my companies and myself is to be very loyal. If someone does a good job for me at a store, I will go back to that same person every time. Some of them are on bonus and commission plans and this helps. If I call and my person isn't there, I don't do business and call back when he or she is. It may not work every time but I feel that a buyer's loyalty pays off. When someone does well by me, he gets all my business. The opposite is also true. I won't even talk with people who haven't shown me respect.

Some of there prices are just plain silly, but then again there is NOT a good gun shop in southerm ontario, with a large selection of handguns, long guns, and assesories. Odds are, if you go to any gunshop in southern ontario you will hear the famous "we can order it for you" line, several times. I have shopped at shooters choice, triggers and bows, gun centre, gobles stores, and a few other smaller shops also. None can come close and compare to ellwood epps in orillia. Best prices, and selection in ontario. Unfortunately, us folks in southern ontario may have the highest population in Canada, but we have the worst gun shops. Very strange that someone has'nt modeled a store after epps down here, because they would make a killing.

Unfortunately, if you live in southern ontario you have 3 choices.

1. Buy from the internet, like cgn sponsors

2. Drive 2-3 hours north to ellwood epps.

3. Go to a overpriced gunshop with little selection, and inventory from southern ontario.

Bitter pill to swallow, but those are your honest choices.

Couldn't agree more with the above.

Ontario Gun Shops

If my experience means anything, a 2-3 drive to Epps could be a big time, energy and patience saver. I ordered close to $4000.00 worth of handguns from a small town Ontario dealer because I wanted to support more or less local people. This was a HUGE mistake. I have never experienced more indifferent and arrogant treatment from any vendor. Eventually I cancelled one order because he wouldn't do anything to find out when my revolver would arrive. In ten minutes, I called S&W myself and got all the information I needed directly from a CS person there.

The second gun actually arrived long after I had left for the winter. I had a friend pick it up. I was charged top dollar and ended up having to go to the store to get a credit from my $2000.00 deposit. I tried to followup at reasonable intervals by email and was told not to email as they didn't monitor their incoming correspondence. Now this is an extreme example but not the first one of indifference and arrogance I have encountered. Now there is no question, I call Ellwood Epps or email. They actually do monitor email and reply to them too!!

Can you name this store so we can avoid them like the plague?

The guys who bought Lovett's in Kitchener have expanded their store. Now it's called the Gun Centre. They carry a lot of Glocks, don't know what else.

Oops, just read the post above. Agree about the guys being nice.

?! the store that offered me 150$ trade value on an unfired M305 NIB, and was selling them off their rack for 800+, the old wooden ones.........F__k them.

Small town Ontario store blues

Can you name this store so we can avoid them like the plague?

I wouldn't do that out of fairness as mine could have been an isolated case although I doubt it. For me attitude is all important and that annoyed me more than anything. The owner with whom I had the most contact actually cussed out an employee for having given me their email address. PM me and I'll be glad to give you the details.

if you just want to handle & compare guns, go to Vermont. much better stores and selection, and no attitude for being a canadian that can't buy it. i walked in, was up front that i can't buy, and then asked to see and handle a bunch of things. no problem, here you go. Vermont is a VERY gun-friendly state.

and once you learn more about their gun laws, you'll probably want to move there anyways :p

Can someone tell me some good locations to buy firearms(handguns) in the South-western part of Ontario? I know about Ellwood Epps in Orillia and Shooters Choice in Waterloo, other than that I don't know. Thanks
Bullseye in London Great gun store
