Ontario hunting rule question

I know a fellow who called this 1 -877 TIPS MNR number and it was disconnected. A CO pulled into his gas station and he told the CO to try and call it and he was shocked to find it out of service.

Jumpins Doug, Thanks for posting this (although sorry to hear about your harrassment)
Everyone's had me fooled for years. I thought the rule was "within 300m" until recently (when I hear of all these people poppin deer off their back steps), then I heard it was "not within 300 m of someone else's house" - like you can shoot off yer deck, but I can't. and now I hear "you can shoot off anyone's deck, as long as there's a back-stop (or something like that).

I have to find out more about this one... weird!

back to Daniel, the "LAW" is what Fall Guy and Chas reported:

From the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act
http://www.e-laws.gov.on.ca/DBLaws/S...sh/97f41_e.htm

Quote:
16. (1) A person who is in possession of a firearm for the purpose of hunting or trapping shall not discharge or handle the firearm, or cause it to be discharged or handled, without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration for people or property.

There is not any "distance" stipulation any more.

Doug

It was my understanding as well that any distance from residence laws in place were local bylaws.

Doug, your post about being chased makes me wonder if these are more than just run-of-the-mill antis? Are they perhaps the owners of a little grow-op in the area that they didn't want disturbed? It's not out of the realm of possibility.

you did the right thing doug by walking away.why give these antis any ammo

I would have had a tough time walking away from a wounded animal trail if everything was legal. Always figured I could yell as loud as my neighbour:redface:

Outdoor grow-opps would have been harvested by now.

as i would but when out numbered time to take a step backwards

back to senior, yes it was tough leaving the trail. But it looked like things could turn ugly, and I really did not want to get into an armed confrontation, thanks very much. Somebody who screams profanities at the top of their lungs, non-stop, for fifteen minutes, is not in their right mind, and who knows what kind of loonies were pulling up into her yard..........

Back to claybuster, I don't know whether dope would be harvested yet (How do YOU know about that, senior???) but the house sits on a small lot and the likelihood of a dope plantation in that area is pretty remote, based on land ownership and activity. (I know the area very well indeed)

You did the right thing!

Ran into a bunch of pots from a harvested crop last week in our crown land hunting zone!

Even if the dopes harvested as you discovered there are usually signs that an area was used for growing purposes. Dopers might be protective of anyone else knowing what they are up to in a specific area whether the weed was taken off or not.
