I am new to hunting - have not actually been out yet. got my licence.
what can you hunt in ON without a tag, and does not have a specified season?
are there any little critters you can hunt year round etc?

thanks

Though I do plan on doing the spring turkey hunt, I'm also looking on being able to just go out and have a little fun (ground hogs etc??)

coyotes, crows, etc can all be hunted year round with only a small game tag in much of Ontario. Double check your area though for coyotes, some areas have a set season and require the purchase of tags

if you are asking this,

re take the hunting course or re-read the hunting regulations twice cover to cover.

The regulations are pretty straight forward and easy to read.

wow, thanks for the help..

Took the hunting course 5 years ago but never got into hunting. I guess I figured there might be the slight chance that hunting regs, have changed over the years.

and I guess I could go back and read the hunting regs, or I thought I could ask the good folks on here.

How silly of me to ask

IIRC If you are in the North, Coyote/Wolf season ends tommorow.....(and starts up again September 15th.)

check the mnr website for small game that's available year round .

If you didn't want smart aleck responses you shoulda read the regs :) You know people around these parts...
Anywho, there's too much info to give out here about ontario hunting. The answer to your question is that there is no game that can be hunted without a tag. At the very least you need a small game tag. That will cover coyote/wolf/fox, upland animals such as rabbits, birds (not turkeys), squirrels and other rodents. Go to the Ministry of Natural Resources site: h ttp://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/FW/2ColumnSubPage/STEL02_168421.html and read up on all the regs that apply to your hunting area.
Good luck.

"...Any game animal will need at the very least a small game license..." Including varmints. Crows, ground hogs(true hibernators. Not out in Winter.), Red fox(in Southern Ontario) and skunks have no season, but you still need a small game licence.
Hunting Reg summary is here.

Note the calibre restrictions to .275(by cartridge name) or less, in some Counties. Some Municipality by-laws have it as .270 or no discharging a firearm at all too. It's up to you to know what is legal where you hunt.
