I was just talking with a buddy that is having coyote problems. He has been feeding deer near his place and now the coyotes have found them. I said we need to pop some the S.O.B.'s to drive them off. His response was there is not much use as the MNR will reintroduce the coyotes to control the deer population. He said there is a facility where they keep them to release into the areas where there is high deer mortality due to overpopulation.

Has anyone else heard of this? If this is the case, I want my taxes back for funding something that stupid!

Now Cougars yeah they raise them and introduce them all over Ontario. ;) Usually they drop them from helicopters as they fly by at night under the cover of darkness.

I highly doubt he saw anything. Considering how easily yotes reproduce the MNR would not waste the money. If your friend saw the facility ask him the address. Your friend is give you BS.

Anyone else, I would say they are nuts, but he said he saw the facility. I wonder if the MNR would need to be truthful if asked directly?

These stories baffle me. How can anyone believe that raising enough coyotes to make a difference to the ecology of any region is even possible? I hear it sometimes about cougars too, and wolves. It is just absurd to anyone who understands what would be required in terms of cost and logistics to pull it off, or to anyone who understands the ecology of coyotes enough to know it just isn't even necessary. It is a myth believed only by those who know nothing at all about wildlife. What kind of "facility" would be required to raise coyotes that were capable of surviving once they were released? Think about it!

I do have lots of fun trying to imagine the round up process required to get a cattle truck full of coyotes that you could release somewhere where there is a "shortage" of them.

If anyone is curious on Coywolves there was a great documentary on PBS Tuesday explaining how the the hybridization took place in Algonquin. The result was an animal that thrives in human habitats. T I know in the country they are problems for farmers but here in the cities and burbs they eat rabbits and Canada Geese. Eggs mostly but an adult will do if it's not quick enough.

Feeding deer promotes predator up swing, especially with a snowy winter like this year. Feeding deer promotes chronic wasting disease, as it is spread via saliva transfer between deer in feeding areas. Tell your friend to do a little research and open his mind and eyes as opposed to his mouth....................... Feeding deer does nothing but give him self satisfaction. Deer and predators have balanced themselves out on their own for hundreds of years. Once again, mankind thinks they are smarter than nature. The MNR barely has enough funding to put gas in their vehicles let alone raise predators. Tell your friend to "get real"..................

Thy may have penned up coyotes some were for testing rabbis vaccine and other things.but never to release them.

OMG your buddy is smoking crack!! You shouldn't hunt with crackheads, it's bad for your reputation. The MNR doesn't even have $$ for gas for their C.O's to do patrols, do you really think they would spend one dollar on a coyote production facility?! f:P:

Dumbest thing I've ever heard......just like they released fishers to control porcupines.

Go out there and shoot every coyote you see, maybe you will knock off a few breeding pairs and next spring give the deer a bit more of a chance

It actually true.... it isn't to control deer though.... They needed to find an animal that breeds fast as a food source for their "sharks with lazer beams on their heads" program.....
