Ontario Moose Draw Results Today!

blasted saber,

Look in the reg's. Area 49 does not provide for a guaranteed tag for any number of applicants. Check out the number of applicants for the limited number of tags available. Area 49 is in cottage country close to large population centres. i.e. high demand, low odds of being successful.

To have a reasonable chance of getting a tag it is necessary to travel to the limits of the Province and in most cases being prepared to fly in. I know lots of hunters can't afford to do this, either financially or time wise, but it is a fact.

For many years I went without lots of things in order to have the money to make the trips I wanted in the Fall.

Got a calf tag for 55A.

It came with a mandatory questioner form and a threatening letter advising that if I fail to complete and return the questionnaire on time, "....hunters who fail to comply....will be ineligible for ....2013 tags....and in addition, may be investigated and Prosecuted!?,.....".

what is so special about the moose in 55A, 55B, 57, 48...? The numbers seem to be OK. Is it their proximity to the Algonquian park?

They are trying to boost the population in those areas, yet wmu 54 doesnt need to draw a calf tag, and its in the park...

Our Ontario regs involving the calf hunt are retarded in general. Why the f*** are we shooting nexts years Bulls, or worse, Cows. We need a BC'esque moose system with immature, mature hunts, etc. Instead of just blasting a couple calves....

Says the calf killer...:p

I like to hunt...gotta kill what you're *forced* to kill, either I shoot a calf or I dont eat Moose. Looks like I may have time to go north this year, our gang has 4 tags, 2 bull, 2 calf.

I hunt in 49 and we've always been successful when we apply with the maximum allowed group size (15).

I realize there is no guaranteed group size in 49, however he is very unlucky to have missed out in the large group application with a group of 15. Unless his group didnt apply as a group and applied as 15 individuals....

X2 on this. Guys that want to actually hunt moose, are willing to travel.

For those that keep hoping to draw in an area with little success and few tags, shouldn't really have any expectation of ever hunting an adult moose....

Yeah, I don't buy this at all.

My father owns approx 500 acres in the North Bay area. Primarily this is wildlife habitat and yet he hasn't drawn an adult tag in about 10 years.

The system is built wrong if those that are willing to keep land specifically to be able to hunt can't hunt and those that live in a condo or sub division with no financial ties to preserving habitat are gifted with the same chance of drawing the same license.

100% agreed. Not giving a man who owns 500ac, a minimum right to the game on his own property and yet expecting him to pay his taxes...is really unfair and abusive.

Why keep trying to draw where you cant? Life is too short waiting for a tag that may never come. That's why we go where the tags are.

My point is, if a guy is trying to draw a tag in an area that only has a few available, and no guranteed group size, there shouldnt be any reasonable expectation to draw one of those tags. Too many Hunters applying for too few tags. And for a few hrs drive, he could get a tag every year or 2.

Right or wrong, it is what it is, and I'll be old and wrinkled before the gov't changes it. So instead of sitting on the couch, we do what we need to do, to go hunt moose...;)

If I was fortunate to own 500 acres in the hinterland, I don't think I would go hungry. I am not suggesting I would shoot a moose or deer without a tag. Just saying I would not do without.

This isnt the middle ages where only landowners can hunt. Its sad but true. And before you accuse me of anything, my family also owns 500 acres a little south of North Bay and we too have gone years "tagless".

As for financial ties to preserving habitat, every hunters license fees are going to that. What is your father doing to preserve habitat other then owning property?
