Although I've been a serious deer hunter for a long time I've never moose hunted. My dad and his cousin go every year but neither one has ever shot a moose. I'm kinda thinking since they're both getting up there that I'd like to get out for a decent moose hunt with them. I do have one condition. I refuse to go hunting and not get moose. I'm looking for somewhere for next fall. An outfitter/guide service would be just fine. I'd consider going out of province as well as long as we're likely to get into some moose. Any thoughts?

Ben is right.... can't beat Newfoundland for moose... If you want to stay in Ontario send me a PM and I can direct you to a good outfitter North of Timmins....

I've been to NFLD twice, the only guys that don't get a moose there are the ones that can't shoot for s**t, or pass up a bull waiting for a monster.

If you must get a moose, you need to leave the province of Ontario. There are only about 100,000 moose in the province with about 9,000 harvested each year.

Getting an adult tag in Ontario where there is a stable moose population as a single person or a small group is pretty much impossible unless you go way up in the NW - especially if you are a pool 2 applicant (which you are if you did not buy a tag last year). The problem up in the NW then becomes access (no roads) so you need boats or fly-in.

Where we hunt there are plenty of moose, but you need 11 pool 1 hunters for a guaranteed adult tag.

If you want a solid chance on a moose hire an outfitter in Ontario who has a tag ($$) or go to NFLD, etc.

NFLD has more moose than Ontario does...

Theres Moose in Ontario, pretty nice ones too. But if you're way down south as people have already said...just spend the cash and go to NFLD. I'm in the Sault, we hunt 21A...its great up there but costs each of us a minimum of 500$ in fuel and food alone for 7-10 days worth of hunting (some guys in our party that use ATV's and/or over indulge in the vacation spend around 1G. I know guys who live in Trenton that hunt around us and I can't beleive what they pay and how much they bend over backwards to hunt 21A :O

Take a look at air ivanhoe outfitters..... their prices are reasonable and their lodgings are nice..... and with at least 3 of you in athe party you have a good shot at something.... not as good as Newfoundland... but less than 1/3 of the price....

The NFLD outfitter we use just emailed me this pic, one that made it through the season...:D

George runs a pretty good outfit. Im not sure he's open after Archery. All depends what kind of hunt you want to do...he's got a lot of outposts to fly into. Great fishing too.

Myself I would apply in North West Ontario were the odds of drawing are good. take 7-10 days and make a Moose/Deer combo. I was in 9B this past october hunting deer and I kicked myself for not applying for Moose as I would of filled a tag easily in the first few days.

He offers outfitter tags now... party of four pays dependant on what type of tags they want....

I love the cottages... being able to cook your own meals keeps the price down and keeps the hunt fun....

And yeah, the fishing is great but I have found the walleye small the last few years..... still very tasty though

Maybe we could get you near a limp one, or a blind cow...:p

I aint half bad at snatching their calves while they're not paying attention :D

Limp one wouldnt be bad either...whatever you gotta do to get to the end result (dead meat)

I say Im just holdin' out for that trophy....
