Ontario moose population is falling and I have pretty good idea why

Agreed mostly and it is addressed in the original article as practiced in Scandinavia. IMO cows should be given complete protection until the herd is growing. That just means fewer killing opportunities for hunters which doesn’t seem to sit very well.

Hunters don't like fewer opportunities to hunt... BUT, the majority of hunters are of conservationist bent, if you can quote reliable statistics, clearly articulate the real time situation and provide a common sense action plan, they will do what is necessary to ensure a sustainable resource... unfortunately the MNR continually skips a couple of those steps. Political conniving (Ontario spring bear closure), and bleeding heart liberal bunny hugging (BC Grizzly closure), seem to represent the game management strategies of the future.
 
Moose populations, where I live, have moved mostly into agricultural areas, no swamp and willows for them, some really impressive head gear to be found as well.
