Licences and Draw Available ..........April 17
Deadline for Draw Entry ................ May 31
Draw Results Available ................ August 1
Surplus Tags Available............... August 12
Tag Available to Print ................ August 20
Moose Report Deadline.......... December 29

So, lets say you buy your license and draw entry on the 17th of April.
Can't print it until after the draw so no print available until the 20th of August.

This is going to fail big time.

Never again . 4 years in pool 1 with no tag . There won't be year 5 . Bear and deer . 40 years of moose hunting come to a close . If i could apply and then buy if i was awarded an adult tag , ok , i'd be in but i'm tired of buying losing lottery tickets .

On an aside...

The calf tag system in place is embarrassing IMHO. Yes, it lets guys get out hunting, but no one really wants to shoot a calf given the choice to shoot a bull.

I think the calf tag system should end. Bulls only...

But hey, gov is addicted to TAX... And every calf tag sold is more $$$ in their pocket & it's VERY unlikely the hunter will actually shoot a calf.

Wouldnt they taste better? Like veal? Lol

Its been about ten years since Ive received a tag, and at least five since anyone at our camp has got one. Its become a waste of time to go moose hunting in Ontario.

They should definitely cancel the calf hunt altogether. Bulls only and shorten the season to 2 weeks. You will never build a healthy herd by shooting cows and calves.

I agree completely. I'd like to see a preference point system in place, but it seems like that's a minority opinion.

I will keep putting in for remote units and hunt when I draw... I don't mind driving 10-20 hours for moose... who doesn't like a road trip!?!?! In the years where we are not drawn, it becomes a grouse/walleye trip... nothing wrong with that.

Ya well there’s a guy in our group and for him it’s been well over 25 years .....fair ...not a bloody chance in hell....
Your better off to drive the roads and hit a moose with the truck then to draw a tag..
Never in my life again will I ever see 12 moose in 4 days ....again ...for ffff sakes...and I gots pics to prove
There’s moose out there ....for fffffff sakes ....just can’t get a tag
What a bloody chit system

The Moose tag allocation draw is so thoroughly pooched in Ontario,it surprises me that anyone is buying any licenses,at all. It's like taking $60 cash, ripping it up and flushing it down the pooper. After 15 years of the McGuinty/Wynne Liberal government's manipulation of game census data reports and open season changes, the Ontario moose hunt is ,now, for tens of thousands of hunters,a distant memory. Thousands of hunters have moved camps to Newfoundland,Quebec and Manitoba. Those provincial governments shall surely reap the whirlwind. It will take the Ford Conservatives many years to right the ship after such catastrophic, inept political interference.

The system is under review and public forums are scheduled in May. I don’t see any solution that will make people happy while ensuring a stable moose population. A point system is the most fair, but it with still take years to get an individual tag in most units.

Shooting the breeders never made sense to me. Do beef cattle farmers kill off their prize bulls? I think the yearlings go to market.

I disagree. A bull can breed multiple cows.

Leave the cows & calves alone, have a draw for bulls. One year in camp we saw 3 bulls, no cows, no calves!

When I first started moose hunting ( I am old ) if I recall there were less than 10 or 20 thousand moose hunters in Ontario . If you worked hard at it you good tag a bull In 1996 my last year with a gun after that I used a bow because tags were available there were I think 250.000 moose licences sold you could if you were lucky get a tag and get a chance at a kill But today it looks like a hopeless cause more hunters than moose the MNR is hell bent at selling licences knowing nobody is going to get a moose tag . Open and double up the bear season shut down the cow and calf tags and it may turn around . They did the same thing with doe tags in Ontario for years these guys need to give themselves a shake.

Well you disagree with all of science! Take the breeders out of the picture and there'll never be population growth. See warzaw's post #19. You need more frequent counts in order to guage how many liscences you dish out. You can't base science on one year. How many days were you 'in camp'?
