I phoned the CFO re: the status of a transfer from Target Sports and they said business to public transfers were taking 2-4 weeks yet I read in another forum that someone had there transfer done in a day. They told me at the store 2-3 days. It is a brand new gun! there can't be serial # issues or previous owner issues. Can the store do anything to speed this up or am I stuck waiting for the CFO.

Second question can a club initiate a LTATT while the application for your first restricted firearm transfer is in process at the CFO or am I stuck playing the waiting game there too until they finally transfer the gun into my name. (This is for Ontario)

Thanks

Unfortunately you are stuck waiting and get used to it. I am in Ontario also.

Yes you can because most clubs in Ontario make you take a safety course in order for them to apply on your behalf for a LTATT and that usually takes a couple of weeks also (do course, test etc then the club applies with the CFO). Even after you receive your LTATT you still must wait approximately 1-3 weeks for the CFO to approve restricted transfers in Ontario.

Good Luck and hopefully this goes quick for you as it sucks waiting for sure!

In Ont, I initiated a restricted transfer Apr 6, finally approved May 1. STILL waiting on LtAtt. Got StAtt issued may 3 to pick up my private purchase. My first LtAtt, but still ! Called around Apr 10 and was told they were backlogged with over 800 transfers on-going. Patience....patience...........

Just had a warranty issue with a dealer(The dealer was great)But ended up getting a new revolerhad to wait 3 weeks for the Ontario CFO to put the transfer thru.
Not like AB. 1-3 days.

Ont CFO mandates the safety course's that clubs give to new members.
Would you like to shoot next to a new guy at your club that you never saw before knowing he never had to go through some kind of screening?
Not me.
Clubs still have to inform new members of the club bylaws,
local township bylaws, and range etiquette.
When someone completes the Federal Firearms course,
doesnt mean they know how to conduct them selves
on a fireing line.
Not ranting, just saying.
Ont CFO has a very small dept dedicated to processing ATT's
in Bantario.
I can tell you a club renewal goes very fast.

Yes... And the way mine went was club safety course, club applies for LtATT. CFO denies ATT because currently don't own restricted. Purchase restricted and apply for transfer, CFO supposed finalize ATT when notified of purchase. THAT's what I'm still waiting on. Did my club safety course Mar 7. Got a transfer, StATT to go with it, and here we are almost three months later and still waiting on a LtATT. In fairness, it did take nearly a month for me to decide what to buy. It's kind of a catch 22 becuase you can't buy restr. without club membership (I know, I know...you can but in the end you still need the club) club makes applications for you which are then denied becuase you don't own restr. Quite a set of hoops, but as I said in another post way back, it seperates us that really want one from those that just think it would be cool to have one for under their pillow.

I have found that calling the CFO makes a big difference. It is almost like the paperwork does not get moving until you pester them. My first and second restricted transfers (just recently) took exactly one week for the first one and less than a week for the second. LATT was approved as soon as the wonderful lady got it (in fact she had not recieved the request from my club and phoned the secretary at my club to get the info needed) and I should be recieving it in the mail any day now. Personally I have had amazing customer service from these people that work there so maybe I have been extremely lucky!

so far my experience this year, has been 2 days for a bussiness to personal transfer within the province.

And now judging by the dates on my notice of tranfer I just received, from a business in SK to me here in ON took 4 days.

I can't personally complain with my wait times so far.

X2 on the fact that you MUST own at least 1 restricted in Ontario before they will grant you a LTATT. This is a relatively new policy (last couple of years).

Been a little longer than a couple of years.
The reason is that, why would somebody need an ATT
if they dont own restricted firearms, hence the need for the ATT.
Hey dont blame me , i dont make the rules

Surprising the number of people that think that waiting a "just a few days" to take possession of your lawfully owned property which you are already licensed for is OK.

How does the saying go? "Master only beat me twice today".

I have a license, you (CFO/CFC) already checked me out, why do I need to be checked out again? This is about making it difficult so to discourage participation in the sport.

Write your MPP!

It took be just under 2 weeks (less a day) to get my first restricted transfer done which came in yesterday. I called the CFO which might have helped. Now the question is how long does a LTATT take in Ontario, assuming the club is on the ball and got the paper work in. I understand the rules and all but I just wish they would staff the office appropriatley to deal with the extra work in the spring/summer.

Mine just took 4 and a half weeks. I was in contact with the people at the club and the delays were all at the CFO. My wifes came in with strange wording so she needs to call them to have it fixed.

I purchased a restricted new from a supporting dealer a month or so ago, and the transfer from cfc and cfo took a day... My latest purchase from the exchange forum is almost a week old, and still nothing... time for another call to the cfo...

I've had restricted firearms for over 25 years, so it doesn't really seem to matter whether your new to the game or not... the cfo is the speedbump on the highway to receiving your new firearm...

Anecdotal story time... The first pistol I purchased (Llama 9mm) had all the paperwork done in a couple hours... Went to the local police department with the receipt and my FAC...received my permit to convey from the gun store to the police station. The store didn't have a box, and cases weren't necessary for transport back then (neither were trigger locks...), so I carried my pistol and mags into the lobby of the station in a paper bag. Got called in to have the serial number verified, and was issued a permit to transport home... Done... All manually entered, and the people were great... In fact I still know them today... Now with the wonders of modern technology, computers that have unlocked the humane genome, billions of dollars spent, and I still wait for the transfer to be completed... sad...
