Ontario Restricted Transfers

I don't know what the hold up is, but LTATT's that expire when a PAL expires are taking 6 weeks in Ontario. Our club permit director is advising members to notify him 6 weeks in advance of expiry. And he generally has a good rapport with the CFO!
Then when I finally get it, it's only good for 6 months! I wish this would have happened before the CFO seminar so I could have asked Ontario CFO Chris Wyatt for an explanation.

I purchased a restricted new from a supporting dealer a month or so ago, and the transfer from cfc and cfo took a day... My latest purchase from the exchange forum is almost a week old, and still nothing... time for another call to the cfo...

I've had restricted firearms for over 25 years, so it doesn't really seem to matter whether your new to the game or not... the cfo is the speedbump on the highway to receiving your new firearm...

Anecdotal story time... The first pistol I purchased (Llama 9mm) had all the paperwork done in a couple hours... Went to the local police department with the receipt and my FAC...received my permit to convey from the gun store to the police station. The store didn't have a box, and cases weren't necessary for transport back then (neither were trigger locks...), so I carried my pistol and mags into the lobby of the station in a paper bag. Got called in to have the serial number verified, and was issued a permit to transport home... Done... All manually entered, and the people were great... In fact I still know them today... Now with the wonders of modern technology, computers that have unlocked the humane genome, billions of dollars spent, and I still wait for the transfer to be completed... sad...

Yup can vouch for that older simpler process of going to your local
police station/registrar. You got to know the person by their first name,
shared some stories, verified gun had the same serial number you told them over the phone, and off you went.
Oddly/ironically the process was done manualy, with a pen filling out
a form.

Well, it's been a whole month today that my transfer of two restricteds was sent by the CFC to the Ontario CFO. Called the CFC again to check on it and it is still in limbo somewhere at the CFO .
I was transfered to the CFO and all I got was an answering machine, so I left my name, number, transfer reference number and a request to call me if more information is required to speed up the process. :bsFlag:

Oh yea----I sent out a letter to my MP yesterday regarding the CFO's failures to the Ontario taxpayer.

We have restricted transfers to Ontario done in 1 day all the time. Although it can vary, the average time is probably 2 days. This is from a business to an individual with RPAL and current gun club.

I'm waiting for a transfer that started April 27. Its rediculous and i'm sending letters to my MP and MPP about this crap. Other provinces are almost always same day.

I got a call back from " Angela " at the CFO Ontario and she checked on my transfer application, and it had not even been assigned to anyone yet!

She assigned my case and told me to call back the middle of next week.
I guess you have to call and complain or you will never get a transfer moving.
I wonder how long it would have just sat there if I hadn't called.

X2 on the fact that you MUST own at least 1 restricted in Ontario before they will grant you a LTATT. This is a relatively new policy (last couple of years).

I upgraded to RPAL in Oct 2009. I went in to the gun shop and paid for the handgun, they initiated transfer, and it took ONE WEEK, and this is for my first firearm. I took club safety and had the LTATT in 2-3 weeks. I have had a few long arms prior, but don't know if this makes a difference. If you are waiting more than a month, I would be calling. They should bump it up, and initiate it with a polite phone call.

I waited about 15 business days, called in every couple days, then finally the girl said she would call the CFO and see if they could put a "rush" on it (I never heard of that before) and the transfer was done that afternoon. From the sounds of it they can do that after 10-14 business days or something. I am really not sure, but either way my transfer is finally done!

Finally got my LtATT Friday. Here's the chronology in a nutshell. Apr 6, initiate transfer. Apr 30 transfer approved. May 3, StATT issued. LtATT on cfo desk waiting for transfer approval. May 21 get LtATT. At least one phonecall a week to check progress. In late April was told 800 restricted transfers on the go. Either way, from purchase to being able to transport 7 weeks.

On the up side, I have to say I have never dealt with a more polite and friendly bunch of people. And I guess as helpful as they could be (?)

I bought firearm from Epps, it took five days to have paperwork in order and have it ready to go.

Now, firearm that was purchased at Shooters Choice in Waterloo, two weeks later... no news yet.

It seems that CFO times for business to buyer ATT are pretty random.

Ordered restricted online on May 20, transfer approved on May 25. Received the package today. This is my first restricted. I was surprised it went very smooth.

Just bought restricted from Williams Arms today. They told me it's about 2-3 weeks due major back log due to some big auctions as mentioned a few posts above. I don't know why others are getting it processed quick. I'll just expect to be shooting my new two in a months time.

Last year, 2-3 days on three sepearte restricted purchases.
