Ontario Rifle Association Winter classes

Another close to the winter program, I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and can put to use what was discussed during the classes.

Mike, thanks to you and the BRRC for the use of the classroom and indoor range. Without it, the classes would never happen.

See you guys and gal next Sunday at Mons for graduation. Hope you enjoyed the course of fire today.

Special thanks to Bob Raymond and his group of dedicated shooters who take time out of their busy schedules to teach and train so many of us who are new to the sport who took the ORA course. Taking the classes for the 2nd year was a real benefit (the first year it felt like all the new information/terminology was just swirling around in my head but this year its beginning to make sense) and the bonus was the longer distance shooting at the the Mons range yesterday.

The mark of a truly great sportsman isnt how good a shot he is( and you are a good shot!), but rather how he freely gives of his experience to help others. Bob, I think I can speak on behalf of the entire 2013 ORA class - You are a great sportsman and your example has set the bar high for the rest of us to follow. Thank you!

Also - Special thanks to SkeeterGunner and the Burlington Club for making their facilities available to us to take the course and for all their help.

Always a pleasure Bob! I'll ping you in the fall and we'll set up some dates for 2014!

You're very welcome! I always have a blast meeting new shooters and helping them get more involved with the sport. Best weekends ever!

I'm still grinin' after Sundays shoot. In the first half hour of the first class I figured I wasn't going to be getting into this game (too finicky, $$$ and complicated) but the knowledge is definitely transferable to other games. I definitely learned a lot. I've reloaded for 35 years and picked up good tips and techniques adn got introduced to new equipment. I've shot for decades starting when I was 4 years old when an uncle had me using a .22 regularly ) and I finally had instruction in the mental aspects of target shooting at these classes. You get taught how to get to accuracy at 1000 yards. How far you want to take it is up to you.
I've seldom shot at groundhogs at 300yd (and never connected) and have never shot at 500yd. I was able to hit a Huns head 9 out of 9 shots at 300yd with 3 second exposures and was solidly on the target at 500yards with the made up rig I had with the cheap scope that actually worked for all the classes and the shoot. I can see how F class and precision can be addicting. Now I'm looking at barrels and actions and stocks and calibres. This is going to cost me $$$$$.
These classes were well worth the time. Thanks to Bob Raymond who puts alot of his own time into this and Skeetgunner and the BRRC for hosting the classes.
