Hi All,

Is anyone a member of the ORA?
I am interested in getting into precision rifle shooting and the ORA seems to be a good option for supporting shooting soorts and getting out to some long ranges. My current setup should bring me out to 900-1000yds.
I'll need to start off around the 300yd mark and get some dope cards and data books going. I'm wondering how much long range time you can click in a season with the ORA? I don't mind driving. I live east of Toronto.
I'm not competition worthy at this point, just need the range time to start building some skill.

Thanks for any info!

You don't "have" to join the ORA membership this year even though I'm an ORA member.

You will be considered as a "Guest" and the match fee will be much higher than the ORA member fee.

Thanks for the info. I remember reading that on their website. If I'm not shooting competitions but would like to shoot the ranges, did I read something about a $45 fee for insurance per range day? Is this accurate?

Because Mons is closed again, we will only shoot out to 500 yards. You are not alone at being a newbe. Come and have a good time, everyone will help get you up to speed.

Thanks for your input. Just wondering when the range days start? I haven't seen this years schedule.

You cannot go there and shoot at the range. You will have to enter the PR competition and shoot. Other option is to join the clinic in Petawawa, The instructor is Tactical Teacher. You can practice shooting on Saturday and shoot a match on Sunday. I think the date is May 28-29.

You can come out and shoot on any open practice day by paying the $45 guest fee. If you plan to shoot a match, the match fees plus the guest fees apply.

Thanks again for all the info. Much appreciated. Sounds like joining may not be what I was thinking. I'm not looking to shoot competitions for a while. I have a lot of learning to do first. I was hoping there would be several open days a year where I could go and shoot the long ranges and build some Intel.
Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

Fastest way to learn is the trigger time at matches - most shooters are patient with new competitors and are willing to spend the time to help them along. Give it a try.

Thank you. I sent an email to the membership organizer to try and obtain a bit more info.
I really haven't looked in to the matches and don't know the rules. Sounds like I better get familiar with them.
Appreciate the help.

Keep an eye on the forum here and on the ORA website calendar as we are just putting the finishing touches on a clinic/match to be held in Kingston, mid July.

When completed we will release the details.

Thank you. I have an email in to Peter from membership as well with some inquiries. Appreciate the heads up.

I think this is how I would like to start as well. Is there one of these in Borden this year?
