I read last night that all Ontario hunters have to take a one day course before you are allowed to hunt turkeys.

Is this true? Why? Is the provincial hunter ed course not enough?

You poor buggers have too many rules back there.

Yes, it's true.

The course is actually pretty informative...at least the two guys that taught the course I took were. Proceeds from the course go towards the programs in place for Wild Turkey.

Now, I've seen a lot of Turkeys up close and it's not that difficult to differentiate between a Tom or Jake and a Hen...which is one of the key things the course tries to teach. I agree with this point being driven home, because we all know how many hunters there are out there who don't take the time to identify their target.

I know waterfowl season is here and deer season is right around the corner...but I'm itchin' for Spring already. 25 turkeys made their way through my in-law's property last week and we spot them rather regularly out there.

The Wild Turkey Course is a waste of time and used primarily as a commercial enterprise by OFAH... should be taken out of their hands and given as part of the hunter education instruction.
You can learn all you need to know about safety when hunting Turkeys in twenty minutes if you already have a Hunting license

I could have walked into that course, sat down for 10 min. and walked out with a perfect score and my certificate. But instead I had to waste 1 whole day of my life sitting through that infomercial just to have the privilege to hunt wild turkeys. I guess in the long run it was worth it, but man was I ever bored out of my skull that day. (Took it in the spring a few years back when the rainbows were running hard in the river. Should have been there slammin' them.)

Im sure glad I live in Sask, no offence fellows but taking a course every year to shot a bird
I have never had to take course to hunt anything here in Sask. Did'nt even have to take a course for my PAL, just challenged the exam.

Cheers!!
