Ontario Spring Bear Hunt

An idea came to mind recently re. reinstating the Ontario Spring Bear Hunt. Obviously, the Liberals won't reinstate it if they are re-elected- they've had two terms to do it and haven't. With the Conservatives wanting to make inroads in rural Ontario, what better time than now to ask your local provincial, Conservative candidate if they are willing to fight to reinstate the spring bear hunt?? We all know that it was the Harris Conservatives that cancelled the hunt due to anti hunting, urbanite lobbying. We also know that bear numbers have been increasing year after year since the cancellation. Bears are being seen now, routinely, in areas that they haven't been seen in living memory. Millions have been lost in licence fees to the government and more importantly to rural economies.

This could be made into an election issue if enough of us bring it forward to our respective Conservative candidates. I have done this already and will continue to suggest it. Anyone else onboard?

What you would really need is a Minister in the MNR who was willing to do something like re-instate the spring bear hunt. A Minister who had held that post before. In fact a Minister who was willing to do so but a certain Ontario based fishing and ...........hunting organisation based near Peterborough threw a spanner in the works.

Anyone want to work for the Gerry Oullette re-election campaign this fall?
