Ontario spring turkey 2016

Thanks KMG. I was up there again last night. It looks like no one was up there since I removed all the equipment. 2 of the 3 notes were gone from the fence. Maybe they will visit the cops with their tails between their legs. I hope it serves as a deterrent. I also put up a note on the main gate stating that the police can enter the property under the Trespass to Property act to evict trespassers. The cops were nice to deal with. They have my and my wife's name and told me to call them if I have other people hunting there, so they won't charge them. On a nice side, I did some calling and got some responses so the turkeys are up there.

Good stuff..... I was on my land Saturday as well doing a bit of light calling and getting a lot of responses.... Should be a good year.....

I hope it is a great year. I saw a lot of deer tracks and droppings. And several ruffled grouse. Looks like the animals had a good winter.

I am seeing quite a few more birds than last year on my properties. I was actually trying to get in to a property to retrieve some wood for the maple syrup burn and had to wait for a flock to move on before I could get in! Seems like you won't have too much trouble with those trespassers any more! Best of luck to all next week!

Monday can't come fast enough for me. This will be my wife's first proper turkey hunt. She is not liking the idea of getting up before 5am lol.

LOL 5am try 3:30am especially coming off a full moon. My personal indicator is if you are not set up and sitting at least 30 minutes before the robins come to life I am late. But who gets any sleep the night before the opener any how.

Got my Tag last night!!! I will be using my Derya mk10 with red dot ; ) Turkeys been bugging me all maple syrup season walking across the yard. Lol no need to get up to early around here they walk through my horse pasture every morning at 7:30am and into my neighbors clearing (where we will setup).

Lol hardest part of the turkey hunt is explaining to my wife why I spend 1200$ on a gun, 50$ on ammo, 75$ on a choke, 32$ for a tag all to hunt something I could buy pre stuffed at the grocery store for 30$..... Lol they just don't get it!

I am using 3" Hornady No. 5 Heavy Magnum Turkey. Mrs Arclight is using 3" Remington Nitro Turkey. When we were patterning our shotguns, she did not believe me when I said the turkey loads have some snap. She listened to me after firing a shot LOL.

She is using a plain Jane 12 gauge, 28" Remington 870. I am using a 18.5" 12 gauge Remington 870 with a SeeAll sight.

They have a hard time grasping that game from the field tastes better then store bought. My wife did till I started making goose and deer dishes for her.

I'm isung 3" #4 Winchester full turkey, my buddy is using 3.5" #5 magnums lol we will see who has more bird left.

Any input as to why a hen would be alone and not with other birds? We've seen her quite a few times now while sitting at the dinner table, but I cannot figure out why she is always alone. A month or two ago we were seeing up to 25 birds behind the house, but now it's only the one.

I know they flock up during the winter, but I find it odd that we've seen it alone at least 8 times in the past month.

She may have been an early breeder...... Once they are bred, they break off from the flock and begin to nest.....

I booked Monday and Tuesday off work. I was out at the farm a few nights ago and the trail camera had picked up a few good pictures. The one flock has four of five males in it. The one that has been doing all the displaying has a nice full fan too.

I'm actually using my 1936 Francotte 12 gauge SxS this year. It has a great pattern out to about 35-40 yards on the tighter barrel, maybe 5 or 6 yards less on the more open barrel.
