Does all steel need to be shrouded ? Or can shotgun steel targets be left unshrouded?

anywhere this is in writing ? cause i am working on a three gun match with lots of steel for the shotguns

I think it is more of a case that it isn't in writing..lol.
Anyways, Stormbringer is pretty well versed in the range operators handbook....although, 2 years ago I had this very conversation with 2 of the CFO Range inspectors over a shotgun match I was holding at EESA, they relented on not having to shroud steel for shotgun while using shot only....no slugs, due to people maybe using jacketed slugs

I am one of the club exec's lol just looking into the legal side of it thats all ;)

it will be at the Rockcutshooting club near Northbay Ontario

can someone please post a copy of the relevant info regarding shrouding from the CFO in Ontario? as well has anyone filed a reference hearing on the use of shrouding being required?

Can you even file for a reference hearing relating to a range condition laid down by the CFO?
Would it be necessary to ignore the condition, have the range approval rescinded, and then file for a reference hearing?

it will be a fall match date will be posted

if you have sufficient side berms or walls, and rear berms the NSA provisions should not apply to your range. if you do not have those things, then really, you shouldn't even be able to shoot on the range as the bullets are more dangerous than any ricochet could ever be. This is over reaching by the CFO. As well the range construction guidelines, are just that, guidelines, they are not law. If enough clubs back there get together, you can beat this.

The info you're looking for should be written in your range approval from the CFO.
This document outlines what activities the ranges are approved for.
As a club exec. I'm surprised you don't have yours committed to memory.

I have a copy of the CFO approval for one of the clubs I belong to and yes... It mentions "sheltered steel".

The purpose of sheltering or shrouding steel is simply to prevent projectiles/shrapnel from leaving the range... You may be allowed to go without being that you're not really near anything that might be affected.
