Ontario transfer times private vs business

HIT and MISS when you do Private Transfer. I sold a pistol few months back and it was about a week. A friend of mine took 10 days but I heard some Private Transfers takes 2-4 days. Business Transfer took a day at least as of my purchase last February. Business Transfer takes less time since inventories are already accounted for by the CFO. All the verification required is the buyer information. If the pistol you wanted is only available thru a private transfer, go for it. Definitely cheaper compared to a purchase from a dealer, the only advantage buying from a dealer is warranty, if you are buying a brand new firearm. Otherwise, follow your instinct.
 
Business transfers are almost always faster. I have been waiting for a private transfer for almost 3 weeks... It is what it is but frustrating nonetheless.
 
got one back in the summer time took only 4 days on a private deal, been reading alot of ppl saying they are coming quite fast lately
 
My first transaction, which was initiated within a week of my RPAL upgrade, took three weeks. Each subsequent transfer have taken one weekday, business or private. I hope you get it soon. Have fun and welcome to the addiction.
 
Business transfer are usually done in less than 24hrs.

Private transfers vary, but given that Wyatt knows he's getting his wings clipped soon I would expect things to slow down at the Ontario CFO's office.
 
private transfer took me two week. One week for the CFO to send me a letter stating that they were sending me the registration.................... then 5 days later i received the registration.
 
Okay, it is obvious that the business transfers are on average faster than private transfers. The slow situation lately in Ontario is due to all of the staff being "away at a conference" whatever that means? I was told they are averaging three weeks lately on private transfer approval. Thankfully, the guy I am trading with is patient with the CFO while they are fulfilling their conference duties.

You need to call them. I call the next day and if they say it is approved, I ship or tell the seller to ship. You don't need to wait for the letters.

I wasnt worried about the gun, got it from my bestman, I was also his bestman. the funny part was getting a letter to say they were sending you the paperwork. that seems like a waste of time and money.

The registration certificates are printed in batches (EOM?). Your are sent the NOT so that you have proof that the transfer was approved. In AB, I find the certificate arrives a good 2 weeks after receiving the NOT. Also, In AB, the CFO will email you a copy of the NOT and a STATT which allows you to take an acquisition home from a store or where ever without having the certificate in hand.

With regard to inventory, they already know exactly what each of us has as private individuals, as well.

Recently did a FOI request on my PAL, received a CD Disc from them and the first page heading is " Licencee Firearm Inventory ..... Inventory as of Sept 2014"

Was able to see they had all correct info including correct calibers, previously had a new Sig I Sold, when I called CFC they said it was 40 S&W when it was a 9mm, it had gotten registered incorrectly when Imported
 
It's now been 11 days from a business, it's my first and I called the firearms center and it was approved this past Wednesday . The business says they're waiting for the CFO now. I can only watch so many videos on my gun before I can handle it and take it apart for myself.
 
I'm in Ontario and I've never had a restricted transfer take more than 4 or 5 days....Businesses are usually quicker either one day or two over a weekend and maybe 3 to 5 for private...Oh just remembered...The longest was a restricted sale to Quebec that I think took two weeks...But I look at that as an exception because, well, it's Quebec. and they are different.
