Ontario Transfer Wait Times?

Bought a gun from Ontario last Sunday, called the CFO Monday at 9am, received the transfer notification same day at 4pm. On the same day I sold a gun to someone in Ontario, did the transfer at the same time last Monday as the gun I bought.
Called the CFO this morning to see what the delay was, haven't seen a transfer notification yet, the very nice CFO lady looks into it and says,,,oh I just noticed the purchaser is in Ontario,,then she actually laughed and said you might not get the notification for 2-3 more weeks. I feel sorry for you guys back there, I already have the gun I bought in my possession, arrived Monday,,the poor guy that bought my gun will be waiting another few weeks it seems :(

I had 2 transfers 1 private and 1 store. Bought at store on Feb 9th I got my transfer in 8 BUSINESS days. I called the knobs daily after 4 days ...I was given a run around like it has not been assigned yet we're 3 weeks behind right now. Comments were from some old woman. Then I called 6th day was told its about 2 weeks. The last time I called I got a guy on the phone and he said I will look at it now. He looked and approved a store transfer then I gave him a private transfer ref # that was only 5 days and he did that one at the same time. Both emailed out within 30 min.#

Call and nag. Other provinces can get it done in less than 24hrs. Their lack of preparation or them being behind isn't our problem.

It sounds like a good plan: Call and nag, I got it. Let's take out my classic Nokia 3310, I am ready for nagging!

Getting jealous. Maybe I will move to BC one day.

Purchased a Sig P320RX on Feb 7. Transfer Notification marked as received by the CFO on Feb 10 and approved and sent to me on Feb 28. With the holiday, 12 business days assuming the a the retailer didn't send it to the CFO until three days after the purchase.

In Ontario, the CFO takes 11-14 days (in my experience) to complete the transfer. However, there is then another 10-12 days before the new registration cert is printed and then another few days in the mail. My wife and I have registered a few handguns between us in the last 6 months or so and it seems to take about a month from the time the Ontario CFO receives the transfer request to when the registration certificate is in hand and I can take my new acquisiton to the range. With a provincial election coming up we should be raising this issue with your local MPPs (or whomever will win the riding), and demand to know why the transfer of registration can take as little as a day or two in some parts of Canada, and upwards of a month in Ontario. Given the provinces are administering a federal firearms program, it would seem there should be some equity in how the service is provided across the country.

Update: Just called the CFO and was told the transfer is still not complete (CFO received Feb 16th) - so for some reason, it takes staff two+ weeks to enter a series of numbers into a database, while the same activity can obviously be completed in minutes in other places.

Did a trade, ar for S&W me in bc and other in ontario, Feb16 both transfers started mine in bc cleared the next day still waiting for the ontario transfer to clear before we can swap, crazy wait times

I think ontario is lying about the backlog. I think it’s an unofficial (illegal) waiting period. The ombudsman doesn’t want to touch it.

There is no question the backlog story is a lie. The Ontario government, beholden as they are to public service unions, would be only too happy to add to the staffing roll at the CFO if this was really the problem - afterall, more union positions equal more future Liberal voters.

We need to demand equity in the way the federal CFP is administered by the provinces.

Returned one defective revolver to an Ont retailer. It would be interesting to see how long the transfer takes for the replacement. Also ordered another pistol at the same time. That would have been March 2. Not sure if the transfer was initiated on Friday Mar 2 or the following Monday.

I just sold my Glock on February 7th to a buyer in Ontario and the transfer was just completed on March 2nd. I fail to understand the rationale as to why the wait times are 24-36 hrs in other provinces and 3-4 weeks in Ontario. I asked them that and all they said in response is that it is something that I would have to take up with the province. This is frustrating for a seller, I can just imagine how frustrating this would be for the buyer :(

You found that out too? LOL

I think it's time to contact both the MP and the MPP.

My Ontario transfer (purchased online store) was approved on the 6th business day.
My Buddy (who purchased his restricted a week earlier) is still waiting for their blessing.....
