Ontario Turkey Season 5 days away who's going?

Can wait for Friday morning...

The land owners just spotted 10 in their backyard. I hope they're still around come Friday.

Hunters are notorious for being handicapped in knowing where they are and often cross boundary lines in search of game during the hunt. This year, due to the weather issues we've had the numbers will be lower so therefore more roaming around to find sign/game will be in order and thus creating trespassers!

*not all hunters do... *most* are good at following the rules. But of course there are many bad apples that spoil the bunch!*

This will be my first time hunting turkey I plan on hunting with both my bow and my gun been out at a few spots and seen some tracks.... Heard some gobblers and tried calling them in a few minutes later there they were a nice big tom and a hen!!!!! Hopefully Friday there are some there as well. what is the best time to be set up ???

And you get the same answer , when you ask if they permission ! lol

Huh !

i have had my eyes on 3 jakes for a couple weeks. yesterday morning a long beard joined them and today a second long beard is in the flock. guns ready bags packed calls chalked. bring on the season

I am on my 17th year chasing these birds and will not be out Friday as one thing I have learned is you will only educate toms that are henned up. I have shot my fair share of birds, several 25lbs, the best 27lbs and change with many 12 inch beards and the best spurs being 1 7/8" spurs. I often hunt birds for several years before they are at what I consider acceptable standards. Don't get me wrong a jake eats way better than an old tom but I get the thrill out of putting the moves on an older educated bird.

I have been hunting a bird across the road for three years this being the fourth and I saw him Saturday morning with no less than 17 hens and a less dominate bird. First lesson is if you think you will call that bruiser away from his harem this early in a cold season good luck. That same bird the last few days of the season will storm across 200 yds of wide open field at full strut if conditions are right. Just saying don't get discouraged in the early season cause this year will be tough with hens no where near nesting now. Why, you may ask did I not get this bird last year. I had surgery at the first of the season and only made it out the last day against medical and much against spousal advice. A 22 lber was roosted 30 yds from my setup, flew down in a field and walked over to the decoys at 3 yds and he looked better than tag soup so a load of #6 was in order. The big boy came out 10 minutes later as I was walking to the house. Gotta love being home by 6:15 with a bird and knowing his bigger brother still resides there.

Don't give up too soon as the best hunting I find is the last week of the season.

Encouraging words like those from a veteran turkey hunter are always appreciated by us guys and gals newer to turkey hunting. Thank you. And good luck on on your great white turkey - hope this year is the year!

You're just sunshine in a bottle aren't you...LMAO!

Hey listen, I was offering a little something Not to do, like call to the birds before the season if you plan on hunting them. I didn't want to take the thread off coarse LOL

They say delivery is everything...

But Adrian is absolutely correct here... calling in a gobbler before the season, when you are planning on hunting it is A) A bad plan for the future harvest B) Against the law... (pending field officer's interpretation)

Hunting Definition (Ontario);

HUNTING;
Includes lying in wait for, searching for, being on the trail of, pursuing, chasing or shooting at wildlife, whether or not the wildlife is killed, injured, captured or harassed. You need a hunting licence to do any of these things, except where the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997, states otherwise.

This.

No one disputed his statement.

That's information that new hunters like Filthy_harry can actually use and learn from!
