The other classic Eastern deer rifle is a Remington gas-auto with a short magnification scope.
When I was cutting my teeth on hunting and looking for my first deer rifle, Canadian tire had marlin 30-30 rifles complete with "decent" scopes for around the $300 mark...... they were easily $300 cheaper than the next step up...... somehow these guns are now among the more expensive options.....
Of course, there were no synthetic stocks etc back then......
Those simmons scopes were nothing to write home about.![]()
I'd sell em both and get a nice lightweight bolt in 308.
