Ontario Wild turkey 3 weeks away

Hoping this year might be my year. 5 years in and nothing to show for it... Been close a couple times but not serious enough about it and don't scout enough.

Gotta get my gear cleaned up and ready to go, got a new avian X hen to try this year. They are bulky to pack in but man do they look real.

Been helping a buddy with a job around his house and for the last two weeks I have been treated to a daily display of 30-40 birds in the field beside his house. Hunted his property the second last day of the season last year and had no less than 9 mature toms in the field and this year looks just as good. Young lad I had with me learned that a cell phone in your hand when a tom comes to the decoys is not the way to hunt. Today I went to the truck about 3o'clock and theer were 3 strutters behind the barn. One is either half white or his tail is getting the blond stripe of an older bird. Taking the spotting scope tomorrow. The steady stream of folks requesting permission has also led to meeting some interesting folks and good stories but I do feel a bit bad when they get turned away.

Don't get me started on cell phones and hunting...... Maybe it's just me as I am an executive and need to carry one.... But when I am booked off, it stays home...... Thy are a complete obstacle to enjoying nature for the younger generation

40 pounders? maybe 2 birds together lol.
I'm seeing many around my place too. Very excited, can't wait.

No these are big turkeys lol, my dogs (wolf and malamute) are terrified of them. I'm just outside of smiths falls own a maple syrup, Christmas tree and horse farm. The turkeys eat all the bugs in our horse fields. My biggest issue will be getting them out in the open away from any livestock.

They might be big... but not 40 pounds big.

I am sure I saw a dead one on the side of the 407 at McCowan on Friday. I know they are pretty far south in York Region but that seemed really far south.

I regularly see them on farmland just to the north of the old Southbrook wines location. Not much land to the south that isn't a subdivision so I doubt they will get any further.

I have weighed a pile of gobblers, including many that were believed to be 30+ birds... heaviest I have seen was 28.5 pounds at it was a triple bearded/ 1 3/4" behemoth.

Yes the biggest I have seen was just over 25 pounds. But to look at it you would say 30 plus. I always remember my first season some moons ago lol I hunted with my x bow and I hit feathers. I was so mad but really when you look at a turkey even the big 20 plus ones the clean kill vitals are alot smaller than the bird "presents" mostly feathers. These days I always get my first turkey with my benelli and then return with my excaliber. I have been fortunate to tag out every year I've hunted. Also more lucky to live like 5 mins from my hunting spot... what's everyones method they are using to harvest their bird this year?
Mine is a benelli supernova steady grip scoped with a x full kicks choke it will pattern nicely out to 50 yards using #6 winchester long beards. I also use excalibur matrix 330.

I have shot some "decent sized" birds and the largest is between 24 and 26 pounds..... And not accurately weighed.... Just me taking my own weight in a scale then subtracting that from me staring on same scale holding the bird....

I shot one that weighed 55.23 lbs, 20 inch beard and spurs so long it would cultivate the field when he walked. Believe me when I tell you we needed a skid steer and a float to get him home.

I own a GM vehicle that has never had a recall...... As long as we are both pretending, I may as well join in :) ....
