We have an archery moose tag this year for WMU 4, east of Ear Falls or NW of Soo Lookout and haven’t hunted this area before. We were unsuccessful in our normal WMU 5 area and one of our gang threw in a 4 as a flyer.

It looks like the Wenasaga Rd going east from Ear Falls is in pretty good shape at least for 80 km, not sure after that. A few lodges closer to Ear Falls are quite expensive so undecided at this point but we do have a travel trailer with an add-on tent and have camped in the bush at area 8 when we hunted there.

The archery season in WMU 4 is 16 Sept to 6 Oct and rifle season after that. Any ideas or tips on logging road conditions or accommodation in this area would be appreciated. We would probably be looking at 16 - 26 Sept timeframe.

Not looking for hunting spots just the general condition of the Wenasaga road. Just wondering if it’s good enough for a travel trailer east to about 80km from Ear Falls.

Hunted wmu3 for years. We used to take the South Bay road, which is the border between wmu 3 & 4 on the north side. Road was usually pretty good traveling for the 60 km we used it. Stayed at woman river camp, also camped in the cuts for years. Woman river had some decent cabins, but they charged by the person per night.

Canada North lodge is on the same road, but might be pricier.

Depends how much logging is going, most of em have graders working daily if the roads being used, (I haven’t been on it since the spring) bring more than one spare and wire/connectors so you can fix your electric brakes when the wires get ripped apart. It’s a better road than the vermilion river rd that goes to slate falls

Thanks for the tips. Just heard some more about the roads and it looks like the Wenasaga is in pretty good shape. Yes, spare tires, hubs and springs for the trailers are on the packing list.

We have a portable camp but haven’t used it in a few years because of staying in lodges and it’s best before date is near so looking at an alaknak tent for accommodation in the bush.

Kabeelo lodge is 61km down the Wenasaga rd. It’s #25 on the map. 27 is latreille lake lodge. 24 is J and M camp.
