Hello

In ontario when hunting wolves and coyotes one needs a small game license and in some wmu's a wolf/coyote seal. The regulation book says you can only buy 2 seals a calender year.
Whats does this mean?
Does it mean i can only make a total of 2 wolf/coyote kills and my yearly limit is reached?

Thx

Yes-42

If im in a wmu which doesnt require a seal is there no limit?

Pretty much so, but the regs changed this year with bans in WMUs near Algonquin. Also in some WMUs that are open all year, have caliber limits. In addition to that townsip/municipality bylaws may affect also.

I would recommend reading the Regs to be sure about exactly where you plan to hunt.

So seals mean a tag then?
So if i have 2 seals in december and i get 2 wolves ive hit my limit but i can buy 2 more seals in jan 2017 and harvest 2 more wolves?

Thx

Yes. But remember if you kill two in January thats it for 2017.

No... it is not by calendar year, but by season.

No, this is wrong. Its by calendar year. Im looking at my seal in my hand

"16" in big bold letters. "Maximum of two game seals per hunter per calendar year". There is no license in Ontario (for hunting or fishing) which extends through a fall-spring season.

I know zero about Ontario, but it the Blew it on a wolf thread last year I'm sure the seals were renewed January 1.

Seals are renewed in Ontario for wolves in January. So if you shoot two in December, you can buy your new seals in January and shoot two more. I hunt mostly in 19 and 21A, wolf season closes at the end of March.

In Ontario, there's nothing stopping you from buying and filling 2 seals this December 2016 and buying two more in January 2017,but,once there filled, you're done for the year unless you're a landowner in protection of livestock (or people). All Wolf/Coyote licenses are area specific, mostly in northern and north-central WMU's. In southern Ontario WMU's,Wolf/Coyote may be hunted with a small game license without limit ,all year, and do NOT require a tag. Several townships around Algonquin Provincial Park and in WMU 60,61,Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park and QEII Provincial park have hunting and trapping bans enacted in an attempt to establish a "new" Wolf/Coyote hybrid breed called the Red Wolf. Most hunters know it's ridiculous, but, given the complete fckuing morons we have running this province,it is what it is. In most Regional Municipalities of southern Ontario, the largest caliber we can use is .270 and smaller,a full list of which may be found in Ontario Hunting regulation Summary book under Small Game. They can also be found on-line www.ontario.ca/hunting. There's maybe 10 townships left in the entire province that haven't updated their firearms by-laws in the last 18 years that still have "shotgun/rimfire" regs on the books. If you plan to hunt in south western Ontario, always check local township regs before heading out.

So it is unlike other seasons that overlap the calendar year? News to me... but I hunt in an unlimited zone and have never purchased a tag for wolves... thanks for the info tune-up.

I was talking about the season, not the licence.... and purchasing your outdoors card with three year small game, it does not expire on Dec. 31.

I am trying to figure out how the wolves got to Havelock and skipped my area north of Madoc and all of Hastings and Walloston Twnshp.
