Went to the gunshow in Waverley today, and hauled home another tripod....

A nice C-Broadarrow marked Lee Enfield Armourer's Tripod, meaning it's done time with the Canadian Forces...cool stuff.

I decided it'd be appropriate to hang a Longbranch #4 in it....just because....

Here's a gathering of tripods...for your viewing pleasure:

Looks good! Tripods are a rare animal to find around. The armorer's tripod is quite interesting. Any additional stamps or a data plate?

Ha, I also went to the Waverley Gun Saturday morning show and bought a tripod exactly the same!! I was ogling the one and he said "I have another one in the truck but it's all in parts" then proceeded to tell me he had "about 10" of them that came from surplus in New Brunswick but he only had brought 2 to sell. I have his contact info if anybody wants it, but shipping would be expensive.

Armourer's Tripod? This item is properly identified as an Aiming Rest, as per General Order 3320 Musketry Regulations dated 1910.

It is used in conjunction with other accessories such as an aiming disk and an aim corrector in order to train recruits in the
method of obtaining a proper sight picture.

Here's the mate to your aiming rest from the Waverley Gun show 'n sale , proudly displaying a Long Branch No 4 Mk 1* . How's my aim, Sir?

Vinver...I just noticed something...your No 4 sits in the aiming rest just like mine, except that my forward clamps grasp the rifle right at the metal parts behind the foresight.

Could yours have been one of the ones modified for the FN C1A1?

His is not modified. Look at mine posted earlier in the thread....it has the extensions done for the C1.
The main arm is a one-piece cast (forged?) part, it does not appear to be modified or no extensions added in to the main arm. At the ends, it has a turned up section that is molded with a curved bottom for the wood to sit on. The holding clips are spring steel, the rears are leather covered but the fronts are not, I plan to make protectors so they won't scratch the wood. There is a Canadian broad arrow stamped at the top of each wood leg, and in the middle part that the bid adjusting screw threads into, I'll see what else is stamped there.

I have had many many of these tripods and they typically only have either leather covers or rubberizing on one set of the clips, while the ohter set are normally bare. I sewed up dozens of sets. I think I care about the wood on my rifles a little more than the army did.
