I just finished the selector switch fill in on a USGI stock and will be doing the op rod pin mod tomorrow. I looked at the FAQ page at the top and as far as I can see, I am filling in the gap in the side of the stock, nothing inside the barrel channel.... is that correct ? Some of the pics in the FAQ thread have gone down so I just want to be sure....

Take your Chu wood stock alongside the USGI stock. LOOK right at the profile where the op rod guide retaining pin (right side) likes to migrate out under magazine pressure.

On the USGI stock, there is about another 1/8" wider space for the FA related parts/interface. Glue in a 1" long piece of popsicle stick (aerospace grade and CNC milled, custom acid washed anodized or else yer #### will fall off). :nest:

I deliberately leave the profile and surface of the popsicle stick uncovered by JB Weld so that all of you will believe me that this fix works!

here's what it should look like in your usgi stock...... the filled and profiled section ahead of the mag well opening in the forestock is optional, but i recomend it as this is the stocks greatest weak spot.
don't mill off the top of the stock plane to look like the norc wood stock  . the horseshoe at the back should be raised and the pads on left and right side, running approx 2inches should be raised..... and bevelled approx 5 degrees
here's pics of the complete mods, as i do them when i refinish a usgi stock

then epoxy bed a nut into the top buttplate screw area. use a 2 inch "stove bolt" and matching nut ..... vaseline the screw lightly..... be sure no vaseline gets on the outside of the nut. thread the nut onto the very end of the bolt and leave it there....fill the void in stock with JB weld or epoxy putty and set the nut end of the bolt in the recess filled with JB and then apply more JB to cover the nut area.... then a small 1" x 2" pc of plastic wrap over the work area....press it down then smooth work out with fingers. tighten the bolt till it meets the stock and allow to set. once set and hard, remove the plastic wrap and clean up to the work area is minimal. remove the stove bolt and install buttplate ;)
