Op rod rubbing against barrel causing short strokes.

Do i need to buy an improved op rod or can "tuning" the rifle mend this annoying issue?

An "improved oprod" ?
If you mean the oprod spring guide rod, no probably won't stop the rubbing
Lots of things can cause the oprod to rub and slow the action enough to make it short stroke.

Use the M14 stickies like the FAQ's above
Inspect your rifle while you go thhru the info. You "should" be able to find the problem.
First things to check are barrel index and "oprod guide" position
Oprod guide is the part on barrel the oprod tube slides in.
