Op Rod Spring Guide Choices

Hi

I want to get one that will fit the Chinese spring and potentially a USGI spring down the road. SADLAK seems like the cadillac of op rod guides, but how are the M14.CA black arrow and S&J Hardware op rod guides in comparison? The black arrow can fit both style springs, what about the S&J? They're all roughly the same price give or take $2-4.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. However, buying Canadian is always a measure of support for those manufacturers who need our support.

Buy the guide to fit your spring....
Chinese springs have a smaller I'd IIRC there fore to get the best accuracy you would need a guide to fit that spring.

Guides made fore the smaller Chinese spring will of course fit the larger american spring at the cost of accuracy.

Why do we replace the original guide anyway? To get rid of the slop between the spring and guide.

Large spring small guide will equal slop.

Would this affect shots under 200 yards ? Probably not.

With irons, the most I'd shoot would be 300 yards. Plus my range only has 300 yards

Any technical differences other than spring diameter between USGI and Chinese springs? Length, spring coefficient, materials, etc.?

Shoot it with a new spring guide and see where that takes you.

You don't need to replace everything at once.

Some are excellent shooters with very little fiddling.

S+J in my M14. Works with the Chinese spring just fine.

I know this doesn't matter but fluted vs fluted.

Argument for fluted, less weight, allowance for junk to build up and still function, stiffer, still maintains rounded profile.

How is the steel diff between M14.ca and S&J, one is 1### class vs 4140. And black oxide vs nitrocarborized finish etc. What the heck does that all mean?

Chemist over at SFRC bought up all the NEA goodies for his business.... All those brands are great.

Remember that Canadian sourced op rod spring guides fit the Norc factory spring. Sadlak and all other American guides will need to use the American op rod spring.... I have these for sale...

So get out there and ensure yer #### don't fall off!

NEA...yeah, it should have been included in the poll. I got mine last year [IIRC]...there may still be a few floating around. It's fluted...fits, works great.

I have a Tartan Tactical and a Marstar. Both are just fine.

I have both fluted & normal M14medic brand from canada ammo, both work just fine
