Open bolt 22lr

check a few things - magazine loose in the well - bent or loose feed lips- clean chamber. are all the rims oriented correctly? See if the magazine can move up & down in the well- I have one that's finicky as to positioning. one way to check is to remove the barrel, insert a loade dmagthen release the bolt slowly and observe how the round is stripped. ( the safest is to use a mirror to view this. The round t may be cocked pointing up relative to the bolt's travel and then the bolt catches against the side of the cartridge on its way forward (I had an SKS that used to do this -and yes it's unnerving). Also make sure you don't touch the mag while firing.

Try reversing the recoil spring guide rod. this will change the cycle speed.

JohnC where can I find a 20-rounder now? I sold an original 20 a couple of years ago and have regretted ever letting it go. Now I'd like to replace it if possible.

And, does anyone know of any of the various Gevarm .22rf rifle for sale? I've only been able to obtain an E1 and an A7. The A7 is missing the original rear sight as some previous owner scoped it and didn't bother to retain the original. Anyone got an extra they want to part with?

I'm told there was a Model E2 which I've never seen offered. Anyone else know of such a gun?

By the way, anybody ever seen a NIB Gevarm E1? I have a photo of one that I found on some European website years ago. MAN! Would I love to find one of these for my collection!

Thanks, JohnC, I'll have to look into that. Previously, I just did a quick visual check of how the round was sitting prior to each shot, just to make sure that it's seated properly. Really takes the fun out of it though.

The new zealand police list the E2 as approved along with the E1 so it must exist. It's been referred to as an "export" model. One site describes it as the same as the E1 but without the threaded muzzle. The reason for the threaded muzzle was for a suppressor which is legal in France and other civilized countries. That being the case , I suspect a lot of the "E1"s we see hare may actually be E2s.

1. For finding mags all I can suggest is check the exchange forum; also call Wes at Ellwood Epps he's pretty good at finding stuff. But you may have to be prepared to buy a second Gevarm to get the mag(s)! That's what I did a few years ago wound up with a beater I didn't really need but got 2 mags in the deal.

I believe the new mag reproductions made a couple of years ago were a one-shot deal. They work perfectly BTW

I've had two Gevarms. The magazine situation with these rifles is their biggest downfall unfortunately. I love the open bolt mode of operation and the rifles were accurate enough as a plinker, but being unable to find any mags was depressing, especially when you compare them to say a Ruger 10-22.
Also, if you fire a low powered round like a CB Long, it won't eject or extract and you're reduced to using a knife blade to pry it out of the chamber.

I had an E1 takedown rifle, and one day noticed that the rifle was bent- that's right, actually curved over to one side in about the middle. Not sure how the hell that happened but it wasn't very impressive. The other rifle I had was the heavy and long barrelled target rifle, a much better item. Wish I had kept it.

I may be wrong, but I think bent barrels - if not too badly bent - CAN be straightened by a good smithy. If you've still got it and don't want it, you can get good prices for the parts.

Not sure, but I think that may be where I ran into reference of the E2. I don't remember the reference to threaded muzzles, but I know the dozen E1s I've owned over the years, NONE had a threaded muzzle. As far as I know, they ALL came off the shelves of large department stores in both the U.S. and Canada. Stores like Kmart down here, and also places like S.I.R. up there.

None of my commercial Gevarm/Gevelot printed matter - about 99% printed in English - has any mention of a Model E2. However the idea that UNTHREADED would be the "export" model makes more sense, due to our antiquated surpressor laws in NA. Ergo, your comment about our E1s is probably correct, they're actually E2s. BUT, IF that's the case, why would ALL the ads (at least ALL I've ever seen) in both U.S. and Canada (NA) refer to them as E1s?

Maybe another poster can shed some light on this E1/E2 enigma.

There was no happy ending to that particular tale of woe...:(

This was about 20 years ago. Put it on consignment in a gun store, whoever looked at it must have liked what he saw in his hands because it sold.

Voere .22 open bolt use the same mag as Gevarm

Not in my experience.
I own several of each.
The gevarm E-1 mag will not fit in any of my voeres. The Gevarm is much wider.
The voere mags are interchangeable between the austrian closed bolt voeres and the german open-bolt ones, although the fit can be pretty snug.
