Open gun builders in canada

The ones I know about are

Joseph at Dlask Arms
Gunnar at Armco
Barry at Bits and Pieces ( I think he does open gun as well can always ask)

I know there is 1 at percision rifle but I think he builds rifles not pistols.

It really depends on what type of rifle, pistol ect you want done as each smith is better at something then the other so having all the smiths work on it would be the best in some cases but not cheap depending on what you want

Make sure the smith you go with understands the sport you are building it for. I've seen a good share of open guns built by people who thought they knew how to do it. Buy right the first time cheaper in long run

This gun is going to be a steel only gun so its a bit different wants list than a regular open gun so that is keeping me away from buying a used open gun or a sti one + tweaking since the only one that would be suitable is a steel master.

Sent some emails out to the suggested people and will continue to send them and look at the websites for anyone else you guys would recomend

Dlask built me a very nice single stack 1911 in 9mm for steel. I used to run a 5lb recoil spring with very light loads. It's been a great steel gun.

X2. Pretty specific pistol. Light, short and less comp. Fairly uncommon here as far as builds go. I shoot the steelmaster for steel and it is a really good steel gun, plus you can tweak it to your personal preference.
Actually shot it last year for IPSC in major:eek:, snappy little bastard with major. FLGR and 9# spring.

Sititunga that looks sweet

yea its an odd duck of a gun, but got the features i want nailed down so just a matter of a smith to do it.

Steel master would work, except it costs as much as this gun will cost me if not more and id have to buy $800 in mags for it. true i cant transition to IPSC open with the single stack, but if i wanted to shoot IPSC open id want a full size gun anyways

double stack is a no go, i dont want to spend the money on mags, they are stupidly expensive

Talk to Jo Dlask his single stacks are great, and he's also local to you. I'd get him to make a Titanium comp if I were to build this again. Many people run dedicated 9mm steel guns with very light recoil springs in 5-7lb range. A whole bunch of people make reasonably priced single stack 10 rds mags in 9mm/38 Super for the 1911.

Buying a czechmate is probably the simplest option for a cz open gun.
$3k gets you full kit with spare barrels and mags.
This assumes you are going 9major.

Yea that is definitely a good start
but i think it is good to know a good person to go to for tune ups/fitting internals/replacing parts

Even if you are only looking at single stacks why get someone like doubletap or dark to build one from scratch for you to your specifications? You might be able to leverage parts for your build like the sps vista short barrel/comp to suit your needs.

Why couldn't you shoot Open with a SS?
