I am new to the open gun and I will need input from the Open gun shooters using 9mm major.
Could you please share your major PF data for this round. What is the best powder to use for this round? I will be shooting the STI Trubor 5-inch stock bbl.

Thanks in advance :)

The load I settled on, from a Inglis made P35 (which has a ramped chamber) was 9.1 grains of Hercules BlueDot, behind a 125 grain copper plated bullet, lit with Federal small pistol primers, for a velocity of about 1400 fps.
This was back in the early and mid-80's so you'll never find the same lots of anything that I used, so you'll have to do the testing on your own.

Using these loads in a standard 1911 type barrel produced a couple of "blow-outs" that still make my hand sting thinking about them.

Exploring this territory, you need to be prepared for the possibility of of a damaged gun and/or body parts.
The bright spot is - the damage is usually pretty minor, just remember to wear good shooting glasses, cause a few tiny metal shards in your cheek are no concern at all, stick a bandaid over them, reload and continue... those same metal shards in your eye, are bad mojo.

In Canada i would stay away from blue dot. It is temperature sensitive, The pressure goe's up in the cold weather. For shooting outside use 540 Winchester or HS6 same thing.
its a bit smokey indoors. BENOS ipsc forum has lots of loads to chose from.

Depending on location 3n37 could be a option my load was for a 3.9" barrel so start as advertise above.......I also like the HS6..

I loaded rather long and all loads were Compress just start low do chrono and go up slowly not all powders have the same increase rate.....some lots are even different......MY LOAD FOR MY GUN 3.9" Barrel with some light pressure sign.......(was very hard on the gun)

AOL 1.185"
Primer CCI SPM
Mix case
125 HAP (Hornady)
HS-6 8.7
3n37 8.2

Now I used this gun for steel.....with a puff load!

Thanks for the input guys.
Yes, I thought about BEnos site after I fired this query. Tons of info on 9 major loads. Nevertheless, I appreciate all your help.
Thanks muchly :)
